Was in Wal-mart one day with my bf when we heard his ex wife paged overhead. They were married less than a year, no kids and it's been 15 years since they divorced. She still goes by his last name.

Was in Wal-mart one day with my bf when we heard his ex wife paged overhead. They were married less than a year, no kids and it's been 15 years since they divorced. She still goes by his last name.
I'm going to change my name when I get married in a couple months. I'm not really sure "why", I guess it's tradition and I just always assume when I got married I take his last name. Then again, I'd probably feel differently if his last name was ridiculously long or stupid like Crapper

A few months? Didn't you just meet the guy? I mean, should you really be planning a wedding already? Is he even legal to drink yet? It seems to me you're rushing in to this.

I have been with my fiance for many years actually and I'm very excited to be getting married. We're having an outdoors ceremony and I'm hoping all the snow we've gotten hasn't completely destroyed the rose bushes

I told her that she could choose to take mine or keep hers. Didn't matter to me. I don't have some irrational pride in my heritage. My family name does not define me, my actions do.
My only stand was no hyphenation. I hate that. Take my name or leave it, just don't hyphenate.
She took my name and changed her middle name to her maiden name. Her dad liked that.
That's my Dad's favorite cake. That's the one with coconut right? I don't really like coconut but for some reason it stays moist and is soooo good on German Chocolate Cake, mmmmm!

If u felt the need to reply you shouldve answered my question. why wouldnt she think u were insinuating yourself? None of those things describe her, but they do with you and your circumstances. And if u were saying she was your mpd, then why would u say something like "What made you think I was talking about myself there? Maybe you are an MPD "

See this is where I struggle. I still have my ex-husband's last name and obviously my kids have his last name. So if I took my current husbands' name then I would have a different last name from the kids and I don't want that (nor do they)...but it wouldn't be right to my husband to keep my ex-husband's name.
I often thought of changing the kids and my last name back to my maiden name, but the kids don't want to do that - they want to keep the last name they have (too difficult they think with school, friends, records, etc.)
So then I thought of taking back my maiden name and changing their name to include a second middle name of my maiden name and then they keep their current last name. That way I could hyphenate my maiden name with my hubby's and I'd still be linked by name to the kids.
