PS: Seriously -ahem- we don't have the gorgeous sunsets you've got on the west coast, but we are very near the Chesapeake Bay.
How near the water depends on how much you want to spend on your rent/mortgage.
There
are any number of state parks that have hiking trails in the vicinity; just don't expect mountain-type trails, nothing higher here than a couple thousand
feet. Hiking along the beaches is endless. MWR on the NAS has info on those kinds of things. We have skiing, just not like you've seen, or even what I've seen in Arizona. There are some decent areas in NY and VT, still nothing like mountain skiing. Culture; there are museums up and down the area; local stuff though, St. Mary's College for one, Sotterley Plantation for another, and other Revolutionary/Civil War battle sites in the immediate area.
