Congrats on your new bike. I got my new bike in July a 05 Boulevard C50 Red with flames. I also took the safety course at the local community college, let me tell you the course should be mandatory. I learnt so much about riding. Having fun riding!

Classes are filled up until Spring, so I'll just practice on my road. The local deputy told me not to practice in any parking lots until I get my permit. I'll get my insurance Friday, inspection Saturday and am studying for the permit. If they would just leave me alone at work, I'd be able to get the permit manual down good. Since they expect me to work, guess I'll have to bring it home and study over the weekend.

Did you try the Harley Dealers?? Especially like the one in Annapolis, or in and around DC or Baltimore..

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation course is extraordinarily beneficial to all riders, both new and 'experienced'. The 'countersteering' segment of the course teaches you how a motorcycle is really steered, without spending 5 years of injurious mistakes at the helm. Some of their classes offer motorcycles to ride that are sponsored by local dealerships, so you don't need to haul your own bike. If the free motorcycles are little dirt bikes, you can whip through the state motorcycle exam offered at the end of the MSF course in a breeze. Website is: http://www.msf-usa.org

One needs an MSF card to ride on base. Unfortunately, my MSF card was issued in 1979 and the base doesn't recognize it because, "It doesn't look like the one in the NAS instruction."

You should be able to get a reissue. Something similar happened to me when they changed formats for the Experienced Rider's Course card. I just went to base safety and got them reissue me a new card.

Although it wouldnt bea bad idea to the course again as a refresher...

Thanks. I am planning on taking the course in the spring at CSM IF I can get in. I had heard that the local Harley place was going to offer the course when they moved to their new location. I called them and the girl didn't know anything about it. She said they might, in the summer, if they locate space to do it in.

Check the Annapolis and Elkridge harley Dealers.. it's called Riders Edge.. two evenings and one week-end.. Posted a link on BMWBikers of Metro Washington and asked. First thing they suggested is find out when the first day of registration is (for ANY MSF course), the classes fill up FAST, then they suggested the Harley Dealers and the Riders Edge Course..

Annapolis is booked until March...I'm number 180-something on the waiting list. EVERYBODY is booked until Spring.

Probably a good thing. It was a little brisk riding in to work this morning.
I learned form my mistake yesterday and went with the full face helmet this morning. Except for the little square left uncovered right in the front of my neck I was toasty.

This was another answer I got back.. the smaller the base the better the chance!!

Might as well call different bases. I took my ERC at the Anacostia Naval Annex, in the lot next to Marine One. Either the Navy or the safety office at 11WG (MSgt Coulter?) can direct you. There was an online registration form you can eventually find if you search on NDW and navigate.

I don't sure about other bases, but I imagine at least that Andrews, Belvoir and Quantico would have classes, too.

Another answer!

Kevin, the guy I escorted to work several times, took the rider's edge at a Harley dealership in Staunton. Had to spend the weekend down there. But he wanted to take the class NOW!

Tell your friends to expand their search radius and figure on spending the night in a hotel. John and Jody went down south somewhere to take the class.

Was a little chilly.. wore both pants and jacket with liners.. kept me toasty warm, I do need new gloves.. palms were warm with the heated grips, back of the hands were freezing!
