Just my humble opinion

Too many people take the safety course as a way around taking the MD MVA riding test and that produces people with a lisence to ride in circles in a parking lot with no real road experience.I got my wife a 250 ninja 2 years ago and she had never riden a bike before. She would practice everyday after work on the roads in our neighborhood(behind K-mart),after about a month of that she was able to ride with me on the main roads early in the morning when traffic was very light. As her skills and confidence improved we moved on to other times of the day and differant roads. After the six months of riding with me on her learners permit she took and passed the Md MVA riding test with no problems and I honestly believe it was because she has 1600 miles of REAL riding experience under her belt.I am not saying the safety course is not a good thing but I am saying it should not be the only thing.I personally know people with there motorcycle lisence they got after taking the safety course and I would not ever think of going out on the road with them because they cant ride..If you want to take the safety course I agree it teaches some very good techniques but a learners permit and road time with a lisenced rider should also be included in your learning experience, because in my opinion riding in a parking lot teaches you one thing......how to ride in a parking lot.......We live in Laurel Glenn feel free to email me if you want to ride with my wife and myself...

I have to agree with the bike course, i spent two days in a parking lot learning, then i my hubby had me ride the bike in our neighborhood and school parking lot for a few months. Then i went on the main roads for a short distance to get use to the other cars cruising by, then i did a 1/2 ride, then 1hr ride, now i'm riding all the time. I still get nervous, but i'm out there, enjoying the ride.

Congrtas to you and ride safe you did it the way I was talking about by putting in the extra effort to learn more and practice before going out on the roads.

...There was an online registration form you can eventually find if you search on NDW and navigate.

Here's a link to the DC base ERCs: http://www.ndw.navy.mil/Headquarters/Environmental/Motorcycle/Training.html
Seems like they run courses through October, not so much in November.

How have you found the costs to be? It cost me $200 to register for the course at CSM this year while DH paid a little over $100 two years ago at MVA (oddly enough through CSM). I'm trying to figure out if costs have increased dramatically and/or if they differ much among training centers.

Hmmm, price increase?? Free on base, plus if you're Gov't you get 8 hours pay too, AND it counts toward your 40 hours of continued learning!!
