Next New Toy.....A Laptop 'puter

Last night, Dad walks in the house with my new 40" Philips flat screen.

That sale that TARGET had; turns out they were advertizing something they didn't even carry. So, I gave Dad the money to get me a new TV.
Since he is retired, he has time to look if he wants to. He also knows the what's and wherefore's of the spec side of that stuff, so he did right by me.

This TV has all the latest "bells and whistles." :starcat:
So now, the next thing I want to find is a laptop, so I can hook IT to my new big screen. :-D

A buddy of mine is an "IT-type." I'm gonna "pester" him and see if he has, or knows of something similar. Thanx aps.

I should've also said, I might invest in a Blu-Ray player for the TV for the 'true HD experience."
So, it's a coin flip.....Blu Ray player or a laptop.

it should be in the on screen menue

I ran through the initial TV setup and 'wireless network setup' was in there; just couldn't get it to work. I'm guessing, because the network's password protected, the TV just can't find it. So, it's deeper into the instruction manual I must go, I guess. I'll just have to get the password again, too.

"Light bulb" went off again.....
The flaw in my thought process is, I'm forgetting that in order to "surf the net", I need a laptop FIRST.

That's NEXT paycheck.....maybe.

I got closer to getting the Wi-Fi working last night. I think.
The TV found connection and ID'd it by name.
I got as far as the "Enter password" part.
After entering the password, it STILL didn't work.

password is case sensitive

That's what I figured.....after throwing the remote across the room. /:-\
The TV uses an onscreen-like keyboard to enter passwords.....scroll over and up and down; press enter when letter/number is "highlighted."
I'll have to check again tonight to see if there is a "shift" or "CAPSLOCK" key.
I'm guessin' that's the wall I kept bangin' my head against.

I don't think that's the problem. The router is just on the other side of the wall, in the next room.

"NETFLIX" "VuDu" (or however it's spelled).....those kinda things are in the TV menu.

Yup, I still "need" a laptop to net surf using the TV as a monitor.
At least that's MY determination.

According to their website, Wal*Mart has a few laptops.
I was looking for an i7. They have them; but they're $1k+.
While having the biggest, fastest, bestest would be nice; I'd just like to have something compatible with METROCAST.
