Well Jimbo? You've quoted and answered around everything else. Where's your convoluded answer to this? How's your morality hangin' these days? I'm sure we're all waiting with baited breath to hear your well thought out, highly intelligent answers.

That being asked has nothing to do with the thread subject, and it really has nothing to do with anything.

It makes no difference that you guys do not like me or see me as some low person.

I apologize for me failing to live up to your ideals, and I admit my failures along with my assorted screw ups, but none of my own life events have anything to do with the given subject of this thread.

I really do agree with both of you in this - as yes the north was full of racism too.

I just do not see how you two can try to claim that the northern racism somehow justifies the racist rebel flag.

I would even take your claims farther as I say the racism is still alive and active today in the north south east and west.

The northern Yankees were racist - yes, and it was the Republican Party under President Lincoln who changed the ending of the Civil War into an emancipation of the African slaves.

The southern USA does not need to be only associated with the African slavery, but that rebel flag is completely drenched in the American blood and in the slavery cause.

It is by misusing that ugly racist flag that degrades and insults the south, so that if they would get rid of that nasty symbol then the southern reputation would be greatly improved.

But no - the whites only want to use the old war symbol and racist symbol embodied into the rebel flag, and as such that stirs up the anger and the hatred which it rightly deserves.

You were doing OK until that last paragraph. You had a reasonable thought pattern going, was speaking like an adult, we had a good debate going, then you screw it up and throw out another generalized racist (you hate whites, apparently) about assuming whites are tied to the confederate battle flag because they favor slavery. I've made a laundry list of good things about the South, the culture and traditions without once trying to obscure or mitigate the evil that slavery, Southern, institutional slavery, was. The ONLY thing you want to focus on is slavery.

Therefore, in keeping with your line of reasoning, if we judge the North ONLY in terms of race, there is clear, deep ongoing racism and cultural destruction. There are volumes after volumes of social commentary on the destruction of the black family the last 2 or 3 generations not in the South but, in the North. In inner cities with social policy after social policy that, judged on the results, are flat out evil. Polices that differ not one bit from how a drug dealer operates; get them hooked. Then you own them.

If nothing else, at least slavery was honest. The slavery of social policy in the North is coercive, subsuming and, if you look at it correctly, makes worse assumptions about black than any plantation owner ever did.

Skynrd built a brand around many things including the stars and bars that have all LONG transcended 1861 and, as I have tried to illustrate, to no good effect, from their standpoint, the band, were NEVER about white supremacy. They were about the broad Southern culture from poor white boys perceptives and life experiences.

Not from that of plantation owners. North or South.

I like the south, and I have lived for various times in Virginia, Florida, Louisianan, Texas, and the south was great to me.

It is that rebel flag which does NOT represent the south.

That rebel flag is the thing that stands for racism, barbarism and cruelty.

If in Germany they started raising and cheering on the Nazi flag then we would fight them again and beat them down again - well the rebel flag stands for the same things, and if some white folk want to stand behind that evil symbol of war and of racism then they are asking to be whooped down one more time.

I say that "redneck" person does makes one true point which is that the rebel flag stands as a threat, and there is a threat of violence included within the rebel flag.

People who stand behind the rebel flag seem to feel some kind of artificial strength and emotional courage based on that threatening flag, as it is threatening African Americans and a threat to decent white Americans too.

Us white people need to discard that old symbol of war and of slavery and let us bury the dead.
