I heard there is no reason to even bother trying to get around that mess. Hubby just called and said that there is another accident also, and if you can delay going in that direction, do it.

Holy guacomole, does anyone know if 231 is backed up? That's how I get to work. :bawl:

Try Dog Patch or Rt 6

Rt. 6 is backed up, just FYI and you can not get to Rt. 488.

My DH said that he sat for an hour and then they turned everyone around. Traffic is being rerouted onto Mt. Eagle road to Popular Hill Road, but it is backed up. BIG TIME. PLUS, WTOP is saying Waldorf is jammed up like a parking lot, there is another incident on Rt. 301 in Brandywine with a tractor trailer.

Screw all this mess, after I drop the offspring off at daycare I'll take Baptist Church to 234...

I left home at 5:30. Went 231 to 381. No backup at all at that time. Probably screwed beyond belief now.

In addition to the accident at Zekiah Swamp, a truck went into the median just north of Brandywine Rd., causing more delays as of 6:00.

News4 says route 5 northbound lane of hughesville to bryantown is still closed. Anyone know about hughesville 5 to 231?

Fox 5 said vehicles are being re-routed down 231 but it's backed up all the way to Oliver Shop Rd.

They had been sending cars down Bryantown Rd. to Poplar Hill Beantown to work around the accident scene. Then I heard they had taken over a lane of southbound 5 for northbound cars to work around that way between Bryantown Mall and 488 (but don't know if that report was accurate or not).

I arrived at the Bryantown light at 5:30 and it was backed up just before the light. I made a right at the light and followed it around, past Dr. Mudd's house. Traffic was very smooth and was not backed up one bit.

A lady I work with sat in the traffic for about 45 minutes before being re-routed by police officers. Her hubby went through right after it happened; said he saw a broken down vehicle and a pair of tennis shoes laying in the roadway. He's guessing that a pedestrian was hit either (a) changing a tire or (b) just traveling down the road.

I've gotten a few inquiries and this is all the information I have on the accident. One of the construction workers, working on the road in the area was struck and killed. A second construction worker was also struck, and he is at Civista with non-life threatening injuries. There were a total of 3 vehicles involved, and none of the other people in the 3 vehicles involved received any life threatening injuries. Traffic on Rt. 6 is backed up to Dentsville and is slow moving. Others are saying that the Bryantown reroute is backed up also.

If you haven't heard from someone going thru that area, and they are not a construction worker, then the delay is just traffic and it is a nightmare. Once I got around the wait on Rt. 6, I was able to roll on Rt. 301 from La Plata to Waldorf.

The MSP estimates the road will be reopened in about 1/2 an hour.

How do you get struck by a vehicle, honestly? It's 5:30 a.m., dark and you can (1) see a vehicle coming your direction and (2) hear it. I really just don't understand, unless of course the vehicle swerved onto the median or something.
