not having a college degree seen as a negative thing

Is the person/persons/organization/whatever which paid for college tuition part of "the record"?

I've seen mine and my kids' college "records" and there's no place on the form which says, "tuition paid for by …". I have the cancelled checks which were deposited, but it is really anyone's business who paid for Obama's or anyone else's college tuition?

I do not apply the same standards to ordinary citizens as I would our elected servants. The more transparent they are the more we can trust them. I’m not so curious about who paid for his education or what his grades were as what he might have to hide. In my mind college information is pretty benign, thus shouldn’t be a bone of contention for THE PEOPLE to see.

Where did you pick up that gem? The Breast Pocket MBA book?

Um, because it's true? The WORST bosses are the ones who are so insecure that they need to surround themselves with people dumber than they are to make themselves look smart. The best bosses tap the talent because they want the best person for a job, not just a toadie to feed their ego.

We've hired people without a college degree whose only experience seemed to be playing video games. Those usually far exceeded expectations because video gamers understand 360 degree thinking that the 4.0 student may not.

I can assure you, I probably would have never hired you.

That makes sense, since Bob has many talents, none of which include playing video games. So of course you wouldn't hire him if all you're looking for are kids who lay around playing video games all day.

GS-14, no degree. My 22yrs of military background, who I worked for in the military and my TS/SCI/YW clearance is what got me hired. I have one employee working on his masters and can't spell, horrible grammar and has no common sense. I asked him- How much are you paying for that piece of “degree” paper.

I think you have it backwards... Dean is claiming if you don't have a college degree you're not qualified to be president. THAT is an elitist POV. Those on the other side of this are not saying having a degree is elitist, they are saying it's nonsense to claim you must have a degree to be qualified to be POTUS.

.

Elitist, not elitist, who cares....
If we had to make a decision based on nothing other than education i think most people are going to choose college educated over not for a president.

Because we can see how well that's worked out for us??

You have a dismal outlook on your fellow human beings, and what a loss to your organization that you didn't hire the "best and the brightest!"

This was evident long before Bacon's recent post.

US Presidents who were not college educated

SPOILER: Two of them are on Mount Rushmore.

Our most (formally) educated president was/is Dr. Woodrow Wilson, who campaigned for his second term with the slogan, "He kept us out of war," and upon his re-election promptly launched us into WWI. And that was only one of his pockmarks on this country that we are feeling the ramifications of to this day.

i was pretty clear im my hypothetical that all we know about them is if they went to college or not.

Other than Obama, I'm not sure that's ever happened before, and doubt it will ever happen again.

"If you don't vote for him you're a racist" has run it's course.

so you are saying that if you knew nothing else about two candidates for president you would choose the less educated man over the more educated?
