Obama's National Speech in School

I am just wondering if other parents are as outraged as I am regarding this....

Who does he think he is to take time away from my child's daily learning to shove his political views down his throat? I believe it is my place as a parent to direct and teach my children; not Obama.

I did call the Calvert County Board of Education and was told that they don't have a decision on the matter and won't until sometime tomorrow and that it will be posted on their website. I asked if the children were going to be given an "opt out" if we choose to do this and again, she says she doesn't know the rules as of yet. There is a meeting this afternoon.

What are other parent's views on this???

I too have a problem with it (we're elementary).
I personally feel that I can parent my own child, I don't need the president to do it for me. Not to mention what does he possibly want to address to children. I haven't seen any information on what his speach is going to cover.

I recommend if we want students to learn about Barry, we make them read Culture of Corruption: Obama and His Team of Tax Cheats, Crooks, and Cronies! :coffee:

Comrade, your child must be broiught up in the correct manner.
They will learn to trust the state, to honor the state, to sacrafice for the state. For it is the role of the state to provide to each by their need, and to take from those as needed.

I don't

1. He IS the president whether I like it or not.

2. It is not a policy speech it is a "Don't be a loser and learn" massage.

3. Kids waste more time a daily wondering how many txt messages they have and if they need a new can of Axe than Obama will waste.

4. People who freak about every little stupid thing are tedious and I don't want to be tedious.

Get over it.......

This is the first time in history that OUR U.S. President has addressed the children of this country. His message is not about policy. It's about staying in school and getting a good education. It's not about you and it's not about him, it's about our children; our future!

If this is truly the case I would have no problem with it, as much as I loathe this President I take no issue with this.

I think it's great that a President is taking the time to reach out to American youth, whatever the message may be.

I don't want Obama reaching out to my kid, that's my job as a parent and I do not support his ideology, his culture of corruption, nor do I consider him a roll model. Come on 2012... :coffee:

I think a good parent would take this as the perfect opportunity to open up a political discourse with their children. If you don't agree with what the President has to say, discuss it with your children. Explain why your views are different than his.

Incidental teaching opportunities occur all the time and should be taken advantage of. You won't be able to shelter your children forever, so instead look at this as an opportunity for you and your child to share a meaningful experience while engaging in a discussion that all parents need to be having with their children.

Or, you can spend your time whining about it on a public forum and yank your kid from school that day so you can bury their head in the sand so they don't hear the 'bad words'.

Obviously, I support a meaningful political discourse...but that's just me.

You're making the assumption that we don't talk politics at home. Chernmax is my neighbor, and I know him fairly well. I have no doubt that he talks politics in his home with his family, as do I. We often talk politics at home. We don't need to send our kids to school to to listen to someone who is ruining our country.

Whining on a public forum? Are you one of those "shut up, I know what's best for you" people?

You, on the other hand, don't care what the message is.

"Tell someone in authority if your parents say anything negative against your President or his policies" (or some variation of that message) will be along soon enough at the rate this administration is going.

You assume too much, my daughter is a honor roll strong minded free thinker and we often talk about politics, strength of education, knowledge, integrity, leadership, being a role model, respect, and being informed so my daughter does not have to live her life blindly eating political horse sh*t coming out of our Capital and White House which will make her another government tit sucker who is dependent on someone else who will make her life's decisions, but that's just me...:coffee:

She's also matured into the type of adolescent who is not shy to tell her parents she love's us in front of her friends and conversation does not include any 4 letter sh*t talk. BUT, I have taught my kid every 4 letter word in the book so she can identify stupid conversation normally brought on be left wing nut heads when they are overcome by logic and facts... :howdy:

In My Opinion
so far the school has not made any mention of the indoctrination into socialism on Tuesday.
Since its optional for the schools, maybe my daughters school is run by intelligent people that see the interloper for what he is and are not going to subject the children to his propaganda.

not to mention that the school she goes to is hardly filled with the non-learners that he is targeting with his speech.
Maybe they just realize that the parents are doing a good enough job without someone from a typically non parenting group trying to butt in.
