Pervert in Piney Point

The tanker terminal was re-activated briefly a few years ago...during the oil glut when prices dropped to zero. They off-loaded and stored oil for someone who brought their tankers back to retrieve it after prices went back up. But no regular use of the terminal at all..and I'm pretty sure their pipeline has been de-activated too. Have not heard anything about Sunoco's plans for the facility. All the properties that could be separated from the original Steuart Petroleum holdings has long since been split off and sold (or donated to the county, in the case of the Lighthouse Road property and buildings)
Did that property stsrt around Lumpkins home near the end of the road?

Not sure what property you are referencing..

The homes near the end of Lighthouse and the loading unloading pier?

Yep. Everything they owned on the end of Lighthouse road was donated to the county, including the Steuart Transportation building and docks, the office building and the WWII torpedo rigging building. All part of the museum and Parks and Rec now.

Wow. The torpedo building is on the right driving in at the gate?
Is the pier open for fishing/crabing?
A few guys used to bow hunt rays off the pier under the lights. And the jimmys out of the creek across from all the pumps were huge.

All three of those buildings are on the right as you approach the end of the road...lighthouse and its buildings on the left. The long low white building was the rigging shed. The pier is still locked.

So I was checking out the Piney Point area on the "satellite" view of Google Maps. Do each of the houses here have a slice of private beach on the other side of the public road? Very interesting property configuration, as they have water frontage on the creek side (back yard) too.
Yup. The only thing separating the homes from the beach is that road. The river side portions are own owned by the corresponding home owner to the north side of the road.

That's all unique to that one stretch of Lighthouse Rd. There is a lot more of Piney Point than that strip.

A good part of them folks on this strip are the Chevy Chase DC crew and I recall them being behind the "Keep Piney Point Piney. NO Refinery." bumper stickers back in the day. A real gaggle of activists they were...

Indeed - maybe late 70s? All of the woody wagons had those green and yellow bumper stickers on them. I bet they thought it was sooo cute carting their kids around upper NW DC. I left the area in about 81/82 for the brighter skies of higher education but kept in touch with many of those folks over the years — I painted many of those houses back in the day. I imagine many of the folks I knew have passed on - I wonder if their kids now keep the summer homes there.

I think that dude Paul something or other who opened The Landing (or whatever he called it) in Charlotte Hall had a place on that strip. I did some painting on the inside for him.

Well, for those out of the loop, here is some info from the past. Even one from the no internet days of 1977 from the Washington Post.

And the story that tells what really got peoples nickers in a twist.
