Pet Value In Leonardtown

Last year when I was "interviewing" fencing companies, there was one in particular who kept bad mouthing another company. I scratched the complainer off my list, and bumped up the "competitor" fairly quickly. I had to tell the guy more than once that he wasn't at my home to lecture me about other businesses, he was here to sell me his (and he failed).

Because I said you were right?

It was the "yabbut" afterward.

You are correct that FF could have been kinder and gentler to her competitor who is scamming free advertising on my website. I personally have no problem with her less than dulcet tones.

If the OP was spamming, why didn't you delete the thread?

It's so unprofessional... I am friends with my "competition".... I would never bash another "competitor" company. Plenty of business to go around. If you go into business thinking there won't be any competition, then don't go into business. This isn't the first time FF has put people down for not going to her store. Exactly why I won't go there. Sorry.

Because it became informational and less about the spammer.

I gleaned no new information from this thread, except FF knew about the competition before anyone else. Oh, and that she knew who I was when I came in her store. I found that interesting, because I have no freakin' idea who she is, or how/why she would know who I am.

Maybe she's been in the kitchen at restaurants that have your picture posted?

I gained new information: I didn't realize PetValU was a chain, nor did I know it wasn't even a US company. When I went in there, the gal presented them as a competitor to Peppers, not to PetCo or PetSmart. She definitely gave me the impression they were a locally owned and operated small business.

Is it a franchise? I would consider franchise owners as local small biz.

Value Pet [or whatever] is a Canadian based business, and we at Peppers Pet Pantry hope while you are shopping for your special pet you will support our locally owned stores. We offer many of the same services and products, thus keeping your money at work in our county.

Not great but at least positive.

Isn't it a franchise? Aren't franchises usually owned by someone locally?

I've been in the PetValU a few times, and I think it's very much like PPP, which I've been in a few times

I honestly don't know. No one said anything about being a competitor with anyone when I went in. Again, that could boil down to "can't watch my employees 24/7". FF's words, not mine.

Then you must consider McDonald's a small business as well. To me they're a corporate chain.

They are, but they still have a local owner. Could be the couple down the street that you stop and chat with when you walk your dog. Just like you, they have bills to pay.

Still a local biz owner. Look at the 7-11's that are going under. They are corporate, but owned by locals. Doesn't matter how corporate they are, they are still capable of going under and losing their ass.

She wasn't rude to me at all, very perky and polite. I was there because I had a dr appt next door and needed to kill a few minutes. She mentioned Pepper's to me a couple of times - as in, "you'll see our prices are lower than Pepper's." Now that I know they're a worldwide chain corporation, I also know why they're cheaper.

I didn't consider it "badmouthing", just that they consider themselves competitors of Pepper's, not PetSmart or PetCo, which is a more appropriate comparison.

JC Penney is going under and losing their ass. Do you consider them a local business?

Anyway, it doesn't matter. I have nothing against chain stores for the most part - Hooray for Target! And Giant! And Wegman's! And Whole Foods! But I did learn today that the pet store in Ltown is not a local small business, it is a chain.

Won't their closing put local people out of work?

Contrary to popular belief, there are jobs out there. You can't possibly compare someone making minimum wage to someone that puts money into a franchise and loses their ass. Do you know how much franchises cost?
