Not like you think........... Im not one who want to go kill the dog. The owners need to be held responsible and accountable for their dogs actions. And be educated on proper ways of keeping a dog.

Im just stating facts.

How many replies do you think this would have got if she didnt know what kind of dog did this?????

The dog has already taken out part of her livestock, so what do you recommend she do now to protect her property, and possibly herself?

Boy kitty kills voles and leaves them on the driveway for me just about daily. Couple weeks ago he chewed the tail off a lizard and left it there half dead. :jameo: :jameo: :jameo: My kids love lizards. :bawl:

What has an opossum ever done to you? What about a raccoon? My dogs, 3 vicious, blood-thirsty Boxers have killed two raccoons, an opossum, a ground hog and a bazillion moles...all within my fenced 3 acres.

Cowgirl is right on point. Prey drive...many NICE dogs have it. I'm not really a Pit fan either but any dog can kill another animal and sometimes something as simple as curiosity can turn out deadly. The dogs take in interest in a "critter," the critter runs and the game is on. There's a huge difference between killing a goat/another animal and killing a person.

Besides scaring the **** out of me, nothing, I guess. I don't know how it got into our fenced in yard. I felt bad for the darn thing but the dog was out the door and on it within seconds. Lucky for it, it was quick. Probably snapped it's neck with the first shake. Never knew a Dalmatian could/would do that. I have a Malamute now and I've heard that they like to chase small animals.

Call me crazy (no, call YOU crazy) but I bet you saw a lot of red in the past. (under a different name of course :yay:)

NO not crazy...... just find all of this crazy to label one breed of dogs to be so bad.
Im just merely making a point on the poor title of the thread

(oh and I do see a lot of RED..... I work at an animal hospital... and I see more dog bites from German Shepherds, and Labs)

Labs and mutts do just as much damage to livestock as pits do. This isn't really a pit issue, it's a roaming dog issue. :yay:

personally i'd rather get bitten by a lab than a pit.

i dont know how you can even say the two have the same ability to inflict damage. I will agree that any dog can attack, but when a pit does it you are less likely to be taking the victim to the vet, and more likely to be getting out the shovel.

dogs attacked by other animal

(and yes ... I have had to treat a little girl that was attacked by her dog that had been hit by a car. She was tore up bad.)

Oh, I see. That's a more clear. You don't typically see dog bite victims at the vet clinic. :yay:

I'm talking about livestock here, because that's what the thread is about. I've seen plenty of cases of dead animals because of other breeds.

come on, a lab or a greyhound might take down a chicken or a rabbit, but they aren't going to kill 5 goats.

There needs to be a report filed with Animal Control....... YES each county has an Animal Control Division.

Any time there is a dog bite, whether it bites a human or an another animal, they HAVE TO investigate it. The dog by law has to be quarantined for the period the ACO states. The owner of the goats has the right and needs to check on rabies status... to see if it is up to date. If it is not .... there is a chance the dog would have to quarantined at Tri-County. Any dog that has a bite report or has killed another animal may now be deemed "aggressive" in the eyes of AC..... and the owners will have to take measures to secure the dog properly.

For someone to state there is no Animal Control where they live is not right. I know they take any bite report received serious and investigate them.

I have no problem defending the property.... but the owner also needs to know there is a chance of her dog never coming home if caught on her property again. Most of the time.... they get the hint
