This is sort of apples & oranges. Taylor ham replaces a hot breakfast meat. It's great on a kaiser roll with an over hard egg & cheese.
I don't know if you travel, but living in Italy I got a taste for their cold cuts. Way better flavor than what's available here unfortunately. My favorite is the prosciutto that's sliced about as thin as saran wrap. Now if I could only find a deli in our travels that could slice it just as thin.
Taylor ham or pork roll
I grew up in an Italian family, all the food for holidays (cold cuts) was imported. Use to go to an Italian grocery store near my place of employment. They had all the meats, cheeses and barrels of olives end stuff. They'd make you a hoagie by cutting the meat fresh.
To answer the question I have worked and traveled in Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria and Italy.
Food is totally different over there, it's local and it's fresh, preserved the old fashion way, pickling or drying (curing).
A meal is to be enjoyed, it's not just about filling your belly. People here would die if they saw what was served in the cafeterias there for lunch.
They NEVER ate at their desk. As I said, a meal is to be enjoyed, it's a social event. That is one thing I miss. Going out with friends and colleagues and spending a few hours relaxing with wine (or beer) and then later to top it off, some grappa.
