if you're caught with pot or any kind of drug, the RA doesn't even write you up -- they call the police
Shoot, a couple of kids on my daughter's floor got busted drinking in their rooms and the RA not only called the cops but they were immediately expelled. This was the night of my daughter's birthday and the only reason she wasn't in the room with them is because she'd gone back to HER room for...you guessed it...more booze.

Talk about scared straight! I was like, dammit! Now I'm going to have to pay for her second semester!

as far as drinking in the dorms go, if you're under 21 -- isn't a big deal as long as they're quiet and aren't stupid....but there are always kids who decide to pass out in the hallway or forget where the bathroom is. that's when the citations should be handed out -- if everyone here who got caught for underage drinking was kicked out, there wouldn't be anyone to go to FSU.

My first semester in college, I lived in a freshman only dorm. We had to go to a lecture the day before classes started about how strict the rules were on booze. If you were legal, you could have it in your room, but the freshman dorm was strictly dry.

After the lecture, we all went back to the dorm and the lecturer/resident manager started trolling the halls busting people for alcohol. (it was the last day of freedom before class started, it wasn't hard to find people drinking) Mostly he was just confiscating it and putting people on "probation." Well, I was in my room with the door open and he drops in and plops down and starts to chat, setting the confiscated beer on the floor at his feet.

My RA came by, supposedly just to chat, saw the beer and made a hasty retreat. She came back after the manager left and asked me if I'd been busted. When I explained, she was relieved. Then she explained the reason for her original visit. She was going to a bar and wanted to know if I had a fake ID and wanted to go with her and a bunch of others from the floor.

My first year at Purdue, on the floor above mine and the dorm room directly above mine, a counselor (RA) busted some guys smoking weed in their room. He called the cops, but by the time the cops got there, the boys had split.

One of the boys came back the next day, walked into the counselor's room with a sawed-off shotgun, and blew the counselor's head off from point-blank range.

Then he walked into his own room (the one above mine), and killed himself.

So uh.. Janey... might wanna be careful.

sounds like something straight out of "reefer madness"

I have a real hard time believing someone would do that over NOT getting caught using pot......

Indiana obviously needs stricter gun laws.
For my experience in it, I was away at class.
When I got back to the dorm, all the students had been evacuated (they didn't know that the guy had killed himself yet - he was locked in his room), and they wouldn't let my wing return to their rooms for 24 hours.

This was in the middle of midterm exams, and I couldn't get access to my study materials. Didn't matter to the profs, they tested us anyway.

My mother was losing her mind from 2 hours away. I was a "Floor Senator" for my floor. There were 16 of us in all of that dorm. Having never been to college before, she didn't quite understand the difference between an RA (or Floor Counselor) and a "Floor Senator" (someone who takes part in governing of the residence hall).

Since the incident happened at about noon, and I didn't return to my hall to find out about it until about 5ish, and because I couldn't get access to my dorm to use a phone, and because it took me about a half hour to walk to the nearest male dormitory and use one of their phones, I wasn't able to call and let her know that I wasn't dead until about 6 hours or so after the local media broke the news.

I think there was probably more to it than that.

Hey Janey~~~Things could be worse for ya. You could be going to a college that has mandatory study times, early morning PT (physical training), and MUST attend classes. Oh and on top of that, you have to wear a uniform! And there was a curfew Sunday through Thursday of 10 pm!! So stop your belly aching about your neighbors smoking!
