And yet you ARE weighing in on this.....
Hypocrite much?
Hypocrite? No. Biased? Perhaps.
The violence that erupted by a small subset of protesters was a direct reaction to the George Floyd video. It was an irrational and emotional response to grievances, warranted and unwarranted, that have persisted for a long time. Although inexcusable, the events were not unprecedented. The events of today were manufactured by the rhetoric and lies of a sitting president.
The difference is stark.
The first scenario was condemned by municipal, state, and party leaders.
"On the other hand, the small minority of folks who’ve resorted to violence in various forms, whether out of genuine anger or mere opportunism, are putting innocent people at risk, compounding the destruction of neighborhoods that are often already short on services and investment and detracting from the larger cause. I saw an elderly black woman being interviewed today in tears because the only grocery store in her neighborhood had been trashed. If history is any guide, that store may take years to come back. So let’s not excuse violence, or rationalize it, or participate in it.
If we want our criminal justice system, and American society at large, to operate on a higher ethical code, then we have to model that code ourselves." - Barack Obama
The second scenario was incited by a cynical, opportunistic denial of due process and democracy, fueled by the words of our president at a rally that took place hours before.
But most importantly, the only reason I've continued to frequent this forum, outside of morbid curiosity and indulgent entertainment, is to attempt to rebut the inaccurate and often delusional posts I read.
Bottom line: Everyone here would condemn the violence of BLM and Antifa. Some people here would not condemn the violence of today.
