Religious Fanatics

I don't necessarily think that's true. I've heard as many stories about religious based charity as I have gay based charity...not much. It's not newsworthy. And that doesn't say anything about the media; quite the contrary, it says a lot about the AUDIENCE. Now, gay/straight, liberal/conservative, black/white, balding/sporting a mullet; it doesn't matter. People want to see things that are controversial and exciting! If gays raise money by throwing a concert on the DC mall and they get Eminem to have a hug-a-thon with Elton John and Boy George, dammit that's just good news. If a Baptist church has 25 members of their congregation work at a soup kitchen on Arbor Day, frankly, I don't care. I'm glad it's happening but it ain't news.  Blame the public, not the press. And I dont think who was in "power" in the media, scandal would be the word of the hour. They'd just find things that offended them and put them out there. It'd be no different. Are you really suggesting that only conservatives are fair, even-handed people? Cause I may sh!t myself from laughing :lmao:

When did I ever suggest conservatives are fair and even handed?  hmmmm?  Merely that we are smarter! ;)

I do blame the media to an extent, You didn't have a whole lot of choice since they were ALL liberal socialists.  However it's nice to see the death grip they held for years is loosening and the tide changing.  I think they truly underestimated the intelligence of their viewers.  Figured they could force feed us whatever garbage they chose and we'd buy it.  Gives me the warm fuzzies to see CNN tanking!

The Post recently held an online chat with William McGowan, who wrote "Coloring the News: How Crusading for Diversity has Corrupted American Journalism." The book sounds like it's very relevant to the discussion here. Here's the link to the online chat: http://discuss.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/zforum/02/mcgowan042502.htm

Anyway, McGowan stated that 90 percent of the victims in the Church scandal are teenage boys. I hadn't read that figure anywhere myself, but he said that means that this is really a homosexual sexual harrassment scandal, not a pedophilia scandal.

If this is true, I have a big problem with how the whole scandal has been reported. Obviously, sexual misconduct is wrong no matter what the age or gender of the victim. But doesn't the media realize that the word "pedophilia" sets off alarm bells among parents with very young children?

This IS one thing that I think I can see your point on.  I DO think that political correctness (a liberal institution, I know, I know) is heavily influencing the media's ability to report correctly on certain subjects for fear that some self-righteous group leader is gonna cry intolerance. I actually do hate that.  In cases like this, I CAN actually see liberal bias...or, more accurately, liberal issues conflicting with reporting the facts (if indeed they are so) of a story.  This is why it's actually hard to keep fighting this liberal fight as though I'm the poster boy for it. I'm by no means the most leftist liberal you'll meet. I can't STAND the Christian Right but that's my main problem. I hate paying taxes, I don't like crime, and think political corretness is about the stupidest, detrimental cause I can think of.  I just can't sit by and have liberalism constantly trashed when I belive that, overall, they are much closer to the "solution" (that neither will ever reach of course) than are the conservatives.

The Christian Right is the only thing stopping you from switching of to the "RIGHT" :lmao: side!  Good lord boy!  Dontcha know a great deal of Righties aren't bible thumpers!  Heck there are even a few athiests (like that heathen Vrai!) :twitch:  who are RIGHT!  :roflmao:

I am to the right on most things.  But I actually agree with you two on this one.  Which I can’t believe.  The church set them selves up for this one.  Now they are paying the price.  BTW the media is about as left as you can get.  Just look at the last election.

Vicos,

The only fundamentalist I've seen or referred to on this board is Hessain.  I don't know who BL was referring to with his post, but when I'm talking about fundamentalist on this board, it's Hessains viewpoint. And I use him as an example because he's the POSTER child for fundamentalism. He's got all the rhetoric down and comes down exactly where I think he will on just about every argument. So don't give me that same, tired, christian-bully crap.  I'm not bullying christians here; I'm speaking out against views which I think are wrong. And if that scares you away, well sorry. But such is the nature of debate.
Interesting that you basically come in here to defend Hessian and accuse US of being small minded. The small mindedness of Fundamentalists is exactly the problem I have with them. I don't think you've read the past posts enough because if you did, you wouldn't make a statement like that. I dont' care if you believe in God. It doesn't affect me. What DOES is when I hear religiously-based hatred spewed out on this board by someone who calls themselves a christian.  Think about this, Vicos; you're coming down on the wrong side of this one if you are for openminded discourse...

Vicos,

“I'll tell you what makes me angry. It's small minded Bulletin Board Bullies.”

Who did I bully?

“If you choose to be atheist - go for it”

Wrong again I believe in God.

“Once a Christian informs you about the Gospel, his job is done. From there on, it's between you and God.”

It is not the informing that bothers me.  It is the constant preaching or the I’m better than you attitude.

“Take your hatred somewhere else!”

Don’t have any hatred towards anyone except for liberals

“And as far as the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic church... Do you really believe that anyone approves of that situation? It seems to me that perhaps many "managers" in the Catholic church, who have covered this up for years, are overzealous in their desire to "protect" the church. It also a possibility that some believe that they are above the law (of God) much like the Pharisees of Roman times that Christ chastised in the New Testament.”

Stop making excuses.  Let’s just throw these psychos in jail.

It seems that you did not know me like you thought.

Agnes of God

I feel kind of like a religious fanatic after reading other people's responses to my post in another thread. The Black Box Theatre in Indian Head is doing Agnes of God and I think it's disgraceful.

Does anyone in here agree with me?

You should only find it disgraceful if you buy a ticket and go see it.

If you don't want to see it, don't.

Anyone can rationalize any behavior at anytime

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christanity

Affirming a Belief in God, and stand on the principals, not blowing which ever way the wind blows .... Having a Moral Compass ?

it drives some people nuts hearing somewhere out there, there might be a God in Heaven who will judge them on how they lived, that they should not live there unmoral life :smack: People would rather worship trees then maybe a Living God, who could be real and have an outline for their salvation.

Priests preying on children, teen boys is an embarrassment to Catholics everywhere, no less an embarrassment than Jimmy Swagart, or Jim Baker were to Christians everywhere. :jameo: At times all churches have embarrassing issues come up - It is God's way of cleaning house!

The real issue is any evil should be exposed to the Light, and dealt with in the proper manner either in the church, or if laws have been broken full cooperation with LEO's and the guilty party sent to jail.

If you have a "moral compass" you don't need religion.

If you know the difference between right and wrong, and do the right thing, you don't need somebody threatening you weekly or daily with eternal damnation if you don't do the right thing.

And lastly.. there's no price on salvation, God doesn't need your money, and the church doesn't need another painting ... If there truly is heaven, are they going to check your receipts??

Because these days people stick to the moral values when it is convenient for them, while at the same time chastising others who don't follow this set of values completely. There is no greater form of hypocricy than todays religious fanatics.

So true. This is a completely brand spanking new phenomenon.

Me, I blame the liberals.

Amen to that.

Today's modern hypocrite! Where do they come from? You never read about hypocrites - especially religious hypocrites - in manuscripts and documents that are, say, 2000ish years old.

If you believe that morality comes from the Ten Commandments,

Always thought it interesting that while Christians embrace the 10 commandments, a lot of them believe the Jews (where the 10 commandants came from) are all going to hell because they don't believe Christ is "God"
