So on the news tonight they had a story of a Texas (I think) where the school district is teaching the kids to attack the intruder. Throw things as hard as they can.

Boy was sitting here and listened and said "Well that is stupid, they will get shot." I told him "If someone comes into your school with a gun, they came to kill kids not read you a story." He thought about it for a minute but I don't think he is convinced.

So my next thought is that we have gone so far in rearing a generation of pacifists that they are perfectly ok with sitting there and letting someone pick them off. How horrifying is that ?

If we have learned anything we have learned that kids go into schools with guns to kill other kids. If 25 kids and a teacher attack the scumbag instead of sitting there like sheep waiting to be slaughtered 1. It may keep all the kids from being slaughtered. 2. It will make the idea of going to school to pick off as many as they can undesirable and unrealistic if they know the kids/staff are going to attack them and possibly catch them before they can take the chickenshiat out of killing themselves.

Only problem with that is the prisoners delimma. There are far more prisoners than guards, why not rush em'?

Who really wants to be the first piece of dead meat on the slab? It's all about the self. Who is least selfish?

I say once again, all the talk in the world is super and so is all the training, but... You never know how you are going to react until you are actually staring down the business end of a weapon...period...

Does it really matter if you are the 1st or 24th person killed? Dead is dead.

:huggy: I'm sorry you even have to have this conversation with the boy. It's sad that times have changed so much that parents have to be more concerned with teaching their kids about self defense in school then contraceptives.

Attack.........25 to one is good odds. My kiddo was taught at an early age to defend himself. He was comfortable with boxing gloves by the time he was five. He can now shoot better than the police in my family. Self-defense is a good thing, survival of the fittest. :yay:

Therein lies the uncertainty. You cannot predict what the gunman is going to do because the situation itself is an irrational and unpredictable one. He may kill one, ten, twenty-four, all girls, or only half the jocks. As an individual your main goal is to stay alive for as long as possible and not be the first to run into a gut-shot while everyone else sits in fear.

However, there may be instances where a group "jumping" may be plausible. Get the gunman when he's not looking or look for stupid moves of the gun placement.

According to CNN the answer is MORE gun laws.. and vide cameras in the school

They foget that guns are already illegal in school zones, 1000 feet from any school, and most schools already have cameras.

If your intent is to kill somene do you really think they care about a felony for gun possession??

AND if your intent is to go in where 500 people are going to see you, you are going to shoot the place up and take your own life, I'm thinking the cameras MIGHT be an attraction. A little more glory of the taped killings being played over and over again for all eternity..

Bottom line is, if some psycho has it in his mind that he is going into one of our schools to kill 10 people, there isn't much you can do about it.

Gun laws?? There was a man that went into a school brandishing knives that killed several people, and again, what good are gun laws when you are thinking of KILLING somebody.. "We sentence you to death for killing these ten people PLUS a $1000 fine for carrying a gun on school property!!" "NO not a fine Judge, have MERCY, not $1000 FINE>.. oh the humanity!!"

I say attack.

If I'm a gunman, and 37 English textbooks are coming right at my face, I doubt I could pick anyone off, except by accident.

The largest capacity handgun only holds about 15 rounds... if you rush him the chances of him aiming well and actually landing 3 or 4 kill shots are minimal, SOMEbody is going to get shot, but the chances of it being a fatal execution type headshot are minimized, unlike if you sit there cowering waiting for the lead projectiole to penetrate your cranium.

I think it's good that Pete is talking to the boy about the real world and that it's sad that times have changed this much.

so you can wait for him to walk down the line and put a single round into 15 peoples heads, or you can rush him, and possibly get away with just 2 or 3 wounded victims, and one dead culprit.

Look my ass glows!
From someone w/out kids in school-

Parents must communicate with their children, as harsh as it may be. They need to know. They need some guidance on how to react. To my knowledge there have been no drills on hostage/shooter situations in schools here. They've had years, now they've had a week to wake up. It can happen anywhere!

I hope parents will give kids the best advice on how to react in such a dire situation. I hope they will also look to the schools to ENFORCE the safeguards they have assured folks they have in place, and institute extra ones.

Schools need to listen to children when (and if) they complain about being picked on. Yes I know it happens everywhere, but some kids just can't take it. Schools need to punish everyone equal. If Joe Nobody (kid being picked on) finally tries to fight back. Johnny Quarterback and Susie Cheerleader don't get punished because they are the stars of the school. Well eventually Joe Nobody is going to take matters into his own hand and that might include coming back with a gun.

With the sudden amount of horrific violence in our country's schools, why can't the school officals send letters to parents reviewing the safety procedures, hold grade level meetings to review procedures with students and practice drills? PREPARE for the worst and hope for the best!

Students (and parents) need to know that the school administration is concerned with student safety and teachers and administrators strive to make schools a safe place for learning.

Like I said, who are going to be the three or four unselfish individuals?

Why hasn't this happened in the past?
