Ask your doctor about an oral fixture. It is the same thing as a retainer. I also had the CPAP titration test completed. It was a nightmare. I did not like the mask and felt like I was suffocating. I'm on a waiting list to get an appointment with a local doctor. Hopefully, it works. If not, well I guess I'll deal with waking up every 2 to 3 hours a night.
As Larry G. "testified"-the CPAP is a Godsend!
I know of no less than 10 folks who struggled nightly w/the horrors of not sleeping, jumping, kicking, and waking up gasping-only to suffer during the day, before getting help.
There are options-why suffer? Why allow bed partners to suffer too? Lack of sleep can be deadly-i.e. falling asleep at the wheel! And in some cases, bosses aren't sympathedic.
Please, lost of sleep sufferer's get some help-the quality of your life will increase 10 fold! :yay:

My sleep test with CPAP connected didn't work out well. We terminated it at about 3 a.m. because sleep just wasn't happening. I don't know if it was the mask on my face or stuff on my mind. I don't know if I'm going back.

...what happened?

My test with the machine I was thinking "No way I can sleep with this thing because I toss and turn so mu.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz"

The tech showed me how I was OUT in under 60 seconds. Didn't move for 5 hours. Didn't move.

Has your ENT Doc discussed with you the possibility of uvulectomy (soft palate removal) surgery? A friend of mine had apnea so bad it was deemed life threatening and the CPAP was so not working for him. He got his uvula and part of his soft palate removed and voila! NO SNORING....no more waking up...slept like a baby. One week recovery and he got his life back.

I go for my 2nd sleep test the beginning of September, pulling an all-nighter tonight, trying to get my cycle right. Been sleeping during the day, and up all night. I hate it. And, I guess, so does my family. I have been diagnosed with severe apnea, stopped breathing 8 times in 4.5 hours, had 451 'episodes' and oxygen levels were way too low.....(excuse me as I yawn!) - such a simple thing to sleep well, you don't really appreciate it until you can't. ugh.

I had such a rough night last night. I might have gotten 3 hours of sleep. My sleep test has been rescheduled for Aug. 5th. I don't know if I am gonna be able to make it or not. I am leaving work early today. Thank god my boss is understanding.

I'm surprised they didn't put you right on the CPAP the first night.

Nope, that is on the 3rd. The tech wasnt sure if she should have or not, since I had a cold. Which turned out to be an upper respatory (SP?) thing, a bad one -- I have been off work for 3 weeks now. My computer at work had my just.me info stored onit, and I could not remember my damn password - which is dumb!! - so I just made this one. Hillbilly chick at home, just.me at work.....

Ahh, gotcha. :yay:

The tech told me when I went to sleep that if I had too many issues, she'd wake me up for the CPAP.......too bad she didn't just hook ya up anyway. :ohwell:

My diagnosis was expected.....I knew I have RLS (restless leg syndrome) so I expect them to give me a Rx for that tomorrow.

My leads kept coming off. I think she came in 10 times to re-attach one or the other. Do you have Dr. Metha? What do you think of him? He is really on me for smoking....... :lalala: I am trying to slow down. I think if I tried to quit now, I would kill someone. And then I would be in jail. And then I really would Never sleep. And, I never went into sleep stages, 3, 4 or 5. Stayed in 1 and 2 all night long.

Yeah, that's who I have too........he looks like a vampire with those teeth. :twitch:

I've only ever met him once and besides telling me that I'm a candidate for Apnea, he hasn't said much else.

I hit REM every 90 minutes she said, but other than dancing in my sleep all night long, she couldn't see anything else that stood out.

I don't know why he doesn't get them fixed. I am sure there are Indian dentists he could go to - trade services, so to speak. can you imagine kissing with that?

I can't find the damn story...

...but Redskin player Kili Lefotu who mysteriously missed practice a couple weeks a ago was diagnosed as having suffered an apnea event.

He overslept, missed a practice and was unresponsive when they went to get him. Spent a couple days in the hospital.

It's my growing opinion that apnea is a good bit more common that realized.

I heard that is what they think killed Reggie White. Has anyone else heard this? I swear, I am getting a complex about going to bed. I am so scared that I am not going to wake up. It is getting so bad that within the past 2 weeks, I have literally not been able to sleep at all like 4 or 5 times. As a matter of fact, I slept ok on Wednesday night. And not a minute since Wednesday night.
