Get a small mutt. If you get a purebred you may find they don't care for kids in most cases. My two just love everybody. Enjoy your search. :howdy:

My pug has been great with the kids but there are some quirks with the breed such as the snorting they do.

In My Opinion
How small?
The che,, cha,, chi,, screw it. taco bell dog that I have now is great with kids.
when they walk in at first there is barking and running from them for about 10 minutes but after that he wont get out of their laps.

just dont know how small you are talking about.

The "taco bell dog" is listed as NOT good w/ kids.

Jack Russells are very good, you just have to be ready for a very high energy, intelligent, stubborn dog.

This is on the list of possibles. But I would love to find a lazy dog.

I have 7 chihuahuas and they are great with my kids. I have one that is bonded to my son and one that sleeps with my daughter at night and can even tell when her blood sugar is low.

I guess the question is how old are your kids?

Also, small dogs tend to be more high strung than larger dogs. For a small dog that isn't, I would suggest a non terrier breed.

The Cavaliar King Charles or Toy English Spaniel. Both are good dogs. The poodle and the pug also.

For a slightly larger but very "lazy" dog, we have an English Bulldog who will be about 40lbs full grown. He's perfect and lazy.
A smaller similar dog is the French Bulldog.

And you can always go to petfinder.com to locate a dog like these in a rescue organization.

Terriers generally aren't very good with small children. With kids the size of yours, you really need a very laid back, stable dog.

If you really want a small dog, I'd go with the pug.

Anyone know anything about a Rat Terrier?
My dog Emma would LOVE to give you a diner's review as much as the neighborhood one has small dog syndrome and always attempts to bum rush her! :killingme She just has a taste for them now - I think it's a rat terrier/taco bell dog mix... Sweetest thing - just doesn't like big dogs. But this is just one scenario too..

:yeahthat: I've had a maltese and now have a pomeranian...neither are all that great with other children. My pommy is great with my kids but not so much with others. :ohwell:
