Jack Russells are very good, you just have to be ready for a very high energy, intelligent, stubborn dog.

From my experience with ours I would never recommend a Jack for small children. To me they come off as being extremely opinionated and I don't see them obliging a child's behavior. On the other hand a neighbor has a beagle that children can do practically anything to. She's very laid back and sweet. Good luck with your search!

Well .... so far 2 I have received 2 nos from the hubby ...

american bulldog - "tends to slober and drool"
american staffordshire terrier - "tends to be hard to housebreak"

Oh second thought, Don't get a J.R.T., they just might take your pillow off your sofa and hump it out in the front yard. :ohwell:

Mini-Schnauzer. Excellent breed and highly recommended for small children. My mini is excellent with the 4 young nephews, and by nature, she tends to stay low and out of their faces. Extremely friendly with breed, and has all my neighbors trained to:

Stop... Pet... Carry on your way.

Hubby seems to be interested in your schnauzer Kwilla. :really:
You need to bring him over to play with her. He'll be hooked on sight and then put over the top once he pets her and see's how energetic she can get, yet thoughtful and reserved too.

Princess of Mean
Go for any mix with a dachshund. I've got a dachshund coon hound mix, 35 lbs who is just the best tempermented creature I could ask for. She's much better with kids than I am. I also recently rescued a little black mop of a terrier mix (might be a schnauzer) weighing in at 23 lbs who is the smartest thing. Go to the pound, pick out a little black dog and you will live happily ever after.

Dexter, the terrier mix and Darwin, the supposed dachshund aussie mix. Dolly's nose in the background.
