Totally gross.....

The guy on cardio equipment next to me finishes up and goes to get a paper towel to wipe the equipment. Now we don't have the pre-wet wipes any more, you need to use the spray bottle these days. He gets a paper towel, doesn't spray the towel down, instead he wipes his sweat with it and then wipes the equipment down with his sweat soaked towel.

Now he isn't the first person I have seen do this. WTF is going through their heads to make them think they should wipe sweat off with sweat?

you must be using WG in the square....the number of faux pas witnessed there on a daily basis could make SOYG a daily log...we just give everyone nicknames and make fun of them in emails throughout the week...

but yeah..even when they had a towel service..a lot of people thought they were to keep your neck warm and that is it...I have just gotten used to carrying a seperate towel designated for cleaning up after others...blah!

:yay:

I have my own towel's I bring in for showering and to use while I'm working out. I also wipe down the cardio equipment with disinfectant spray when I'm done.

I wonder what nickname you have given me.....:tap:

We would probably be surprised if we figured out these screen names.

I'm glad to hear that I haven't earned a nickname. :yahoo:

Go talk to the Gym Manager about the problem. Staff Infections are a big deal and perhaps the gym can posts a few signs around the facility. After working in many gyms, cleanliness seemed to big the biggest complaint among members. This has been my number one thing outside of training that I keep an eye on in my facility. Cleanliness is the first impression!

Even high-end clubs have this problem. You are better off just wiping things down with disinfectant before you use them. Not everyone was raised with a lick of sense....
Yes, gyms are bigtime homes for germs. Any place that has lots of people frequenting and touching things causes germ infestation. You can be preventative by disinfecting but you are not going to get everything.

Side note: Balance training has been shown to help with germs in numerous double-blind studies at reputable universities.

That's why I'm never sick then! :yahoo:

If I think about it I do wipe the equipment down before I use it.

What are peoples thoughts on the gym daycares???? I haven't taken my youngest in there. I don't trust their cleaning.

Gym daycares are even filthier than the exercise/lockerroom areas. Not much you can do. My wife and I try our best to schedule our training opposite of each other so our daughter doesn't have to go. But........

When we do go together we make her keep her socks on. We also check regularly on her and use wipes for her hands and face. Our girl is turning 3 soon so she is following our cleanliness instructions better. I know all this isn't really all that great but it's something.

Kids need exposure to a moderate amount of germs so that they can build up the abilities to fight off germs later in life.

Agree with Big Fatty

I have to agree with Big Fatty on this one. You have the choice of holding some Barbie dumbells and squatting on yoga blocks with hope that this will decrease your waistline... OR you can put your feet on the ground and add some friggin weight to a barbell and squat like a true athlete.

Dude, I wouldn't listen to your "Joe at the gym" either. Mainly because I can bench more than him........

The good trainers create a network. They build a group of individuals who they can go to for more specialized areas for information. Good trainers don't put all their eggs in one basket, ie. blindly follow shoddy research. Good trainers are expert "thieves" in the industry. Great trainers are artists who discover what works for the individual.

I read S & C Journals, keep up to date on health breakthrus, and I even read some medical journals. They are a source of information. They don't, however, dictate what I do in terms of training, nutrition, or even some health issues.

In the context in which I was bashing balance training originally, I still stand by my statement that it is worthless and a waste of time. Building a foundation with basics is paramount to any training program. If you are trying to lose weight as a primary goal, standing on yoga blocks to do squats is not optimal. Especially when you cannot perform a squat with your feet on the floor with any semblance of decent form.

ha ha....ok. Not sure I said to use barbie dumbells or yoga blocks but if thats what you read then so be it. There's many ways to skin a cat. My way is backed by research, science, the BEST trainers in the world and real training experience for 80 years woman, professional athletes you see on tv and 12 year old obese children. I can put my resume out there, can others say the same???

It's been a steam room in there the past few evenings though.

Had to keep the door by the weight area propped open to get that condensation out.

:tap::tap: waiting for the treadmill to be fixed. I have been using the epi up to three weeks ago.Good for muscle but I found it was not slimming. So three weeks ago I try the treadmill again and find a good jogging rate on an incline of 3 that did not give me sore ankles. I was so pleased :yahoo:
The treadmill has always been a bit wobbly but with these settings I was o.k.
However last week I go in and there is an out of order sign on it:cds:So it may take awhile to get fixed or replaced.......
Just a shame I had been so happy with my progress that I had been getting up at 2.30 in the morning to go as my hubby has long work hours and I could only fit it in then.
