Is it acceptable to be talking on your cell phone while using cardio equipment?
Our gym prohibits cell phones in the cardio/weight area.

When I'm on the bike, I'm a text message fiend. I do everything I can to take my mind of cardio, but that can be a drawback since I get a little lax while doing it.

Chasey, this is an excellent question.
In order to come to a definitive conclusion, we must examine the numerous situations that are acceptable/unacceptable. 
1. If you are under the age of 18 cell phone use for any reason in the gym is unacceptable. No exceptions.
2. If you are over the age of 18 and you are using your cell phone for any other purpose besides talking, this is unacceptable. This includes texting, games, internet, pics, etc. (Only exception here is if you are using your camera phone to take pics of hotness or stupidness)
3. Parents have a cell phone exemption. They may have them on vibrate only though. This leads to another important, unacceptable situation.
4. If your cell phone is not on vibrate at the gym, you are not following proper cell phone use policy. Ringtones are ghey at the gym.
5. Just like using your phone while driving is unsafe, cell phone use on treadmills is unacceptable. Only use cell phones on stationary equipment. (Sorry I included a serious one, lol)
These are a few important situations that must be considered in order to kick someone in the nuts for using a cell phone at the gym. The gym has many purposes and telecommunications is not one of them. Be proactive and let's clean our gyms up of these violators!

If you are doing cardio and you can talk on a cell phone, then you aren't pushing yourself hard enough anywayz.

Most of the time I would never think about bringing my cell into the gym, BUT if my husband is on travel and for some reason my daughter is not with me at the gym I have brought my cell. NOW I would use it to be in touch with her and it would be quick. I most definately would not have a long drawn out conversation, for me personally it takes away from my workout.

One guy at the gym wears his Bluetooth headseat while lifting. Thought he was a little "off" at first... he gets things done though, so I give him his credit for that.

There is a few guys at the gym I use that take classes. But they take body pump.
