How often did you sit at the bus stop with your kids? How about as a single parent? In 3 different states including MD. All but MD had school bus stops that were off the main roads. All but MD had policies that had parents take their children to bus stops. Only exceptions were for children with special needs or disabilities.
Several, several times. Never as a single parent however, don't know why that matters. How often did you sit at the bus stop with your kids? How about as a single parent?
So it is the state's and school district's responsibility that someone decided to live "anywhere useful to a bus route?"...and the number that go for miles without intersecting any "side roads"...certainly not ones that actually go anywhere useful for a bus route.
Not sure where you’ve lived - but I’ve never lived anywhere where the bus stops weren’t often in places inconvenient to motorists. Such as all over New England where most major roads are right through the town and there’s NO side street. Or in city ex- urbs - ditto. Or in planned suburbs where the roads wind all around and commuters just have to accept there’s no practical alternative. In mountains of PA, where it IS the highway, and there are NO side streets for the whole road.Several, several times. Never as a single parent however, don't know why that matters.

As a single parent, I had to get to work. K-5 she caught the bus from before/after care. 6 and on, the regular bus, caught in front of the house. My neighbor had a clear view of her in the morning and afternoon, in case there was an issue.Several, several times. Never as a single parent however, don't know why that matters.
I am not debating that what you did was correct OR that it was tough...As a single parent, I had to get to work. Right! Harumph. The state should make sure everyone lives inside a designated, small, closely confined area. A concentration camp.Several, several times. Never as a single parent however, don't know why that matters.

But... apparently it is the state's responsibility to provide door to door transportation service for anyone's kid who lives on a road that is "not useful to a bus route."Right! Harumph. Well guess what, there is always going to be a bus issue. If you don't time it just right, you get stuck behind them going to/from Hollywood Elementary. Or all the way down Mervell Dean and onto 235 south when you get behind 6-7 busses going to Esperanza Middle School. I'm sure the same can be said for all the other schools. Perhaps you should adjust your travel time to avoid this at all costs.I am not debating that what you did was correct OR that it was tough...
My question is that IF you happened to have a home directly on 235, do you think it is fair that the entire traffic flow be disrupted because you are a single parent and had to go to work? Wouldn't it be FAIR to have every child picked up in front of their house? How much would that add to delays?
My question is what logical reasons do the school systems have for putting the burden on the everyday commuter on the main roads instead of the parents where... I believe... it belongs. Serious question for debate...
Maybe viewing the various bus routes could help avoid this perceived injustice that the buses cause. https://www.smcps.org/offices/transportation/bus-routesPerhaps you should adjust your travel time to avoid this at all costs.
Thanks Ken! You are always so helpful.Maybe viewing the various bus routes could help avoid this perceived injustice that the buses cause. https://www.smcps.org/offices/transportation/bus-routes
Since when has anyone complained about having to travel behind the buses when they are traversing the roads WITHOUT their light on to drop off or pick up children?Well guess what, there is always going to be a bus issue. It seems that you are having the issue. As I suggested, adjust your timing so you don't get caught up in it. Frankly, I'm never in much of a hurry to get myself all spun up about it. If I do get caught up in it, meh who cares. I'll just listen to my music a little longer.Since when has anyone complained about having to travel behind the buses when they are traversing the roads WITHOUT their light on to drop off or pick up children?
So earlier in this conversation you said " As a single parent, I had to get to work." Where exactly do you work where "If I do get caught up in it, meh who cares. I'll just listen to my music a little longer."It seems that you are having the issue. As I suggested, adjust your timing so you don't get caught up in it. Where I work is none of your concern and I'm missing your last point. So earlier in this conversation you said " As a single parent, I had to get to work." Where exactly do you work where "If I do get caught up in it, meh who cares. I'll just listen to my music a little longer."
I'm gonna go with Government Employee of supporting contractor for $500... Alex.
Or, is it just one of those instances where it doesn't effect you directly so, as long as it is only others that have to then its perfectly OK?
Shouldn't have been hard to miss..... One minute you are concerned about "having to be at work." so the bus needs to come get your child. Next minute, you say ""If I do get caught up in it, meh who cares. I'll just listen to my music a little longer."Where I work is none of your concern and I'm missing your last point.
So have you spent your entire day on here on your employers clock, bitching about School Busses and whether this is an echo chamber?Shouldn't have been hard to miss..... One minute you are concerned about "having to be at work." so the bus needs to come get your child. Next minute, you say ""If I do get caught up in it, meh who cares. So, which is it? You need to be at work on time OR you don't??
Really not an argument you want to make on THIS forum. AmIright? So have you spent your entire day on here on your employers clock...
