Stray Cats in St. Inigoes

If you live in Saint Inigoes and are missing a large black and white and a really pretty gray cat, they are in a trap in my front yard. Animal control will be picking them up a little after seven. I'm not sure how long they hold on to them before they drive them to Stray Cats Happy Acres and release them to live a happy life forever with their peers but.........please PM me if it sounds like your cat.

Don't you know those cats have a right to come on your property, crap in your yard and kill the song birds at your feeder?

Okay I admit I looked at all my red karma to see how I managed to get so low so fast (don't know why, don't really care) and I guess this is going to turn into the feral cat thread, but since I haven't seen one in awhile, we're due aren't we?

Yes I was being sarcastic about taking the cats to a happy place - I do know what's going to happen to them. Just for the record though - the cats that respond calmly are put up for adoption, the ones that don't are put down.

This is all my fault, I readily admit. I had been feeding two kittens on the property. They grew into cats and brought their kittens to me. I got bitten by one of the kittens. I hadn't reached for it, it simply bit me when I put the food down.

There are little ones in my neighborhood - I don't want one of them to get bitten and that's is my purpose for trapping them. I've caught six cats so far only two appear to be pets. Four I recognized as the cats/kittens I had fed.

I used to post here all the time and left. I came back solely for the purpose of letting someone know that I had caught two cats that may possibly be someone's house pets.

Sorry I offended. You're right, red karma people, I'm a horrible human being, I have no right to live, and I should be caught in a trap and put to sleep. Carry on.

Are they healthly? Do they seem like someones pets? Do they look or act ferral? If not just let 'em go and they'll go home.

If I was a cat and smelled that smelly food they put in the traps I'd come over and check it out too.

Why is it to much to ask that pet owners keep their little darlings on their own property.

I know they should. But I have a soft heart and if they're someone's pets I bet they're scared to death. :bawl:

My cats are indoor cats for that very reason.

Four were definitely feral, I recognized them as the cat/kittens that lived in the barn. And the other two I thought about releasing but they growled at me when I got near them. Once bitten, twice shy.

I did speak to animal control when they came by and he said if they're responsive they will put them up for adoption. One of my neighbors was looking at one of the cats in the trap and said it looks like his mothers cat. I asked if I should call her and he said no she's been wanting to get rid of it for a long time. Not so very responsible huh?

I really am all for live and let live. In last year's feral cat thread, I was on the other side of the coin. Until I got bitten. I wonder if the red karma givers would feel differently if that happened to their child and the cat couldn't be located. I wouldn't wish rabies shots on anyone.

Well....I see it this way. My cat is indoor/outdoor. When he does go outside, he stays in our yard. But, I'm sure if the neighbor put out something that smelled appetizing enough, he'd be over there in a heartbeat.

I understand your wanting to remove the cats from your property, but if you really think the 2 cats belong to someone, why don't you do what someone said before and let them go? There is a slim chance the owner will read your thread, and be able to rescue their pets. And I know how hard it is to find a home for a cat, so more than likely they will be put down if the owner does not find out where they disappeared to in time.

Dang. I thought this was a thread about the Stray Cats performing in St. Inigoes. :banghead:

I loves me some Stray Cat Strut. :dude:

Personally, I think you are doing the right thing by calling animal control. I would do the same if I had feral cats breeding in my area. It's the humane thing to do.

:nono: I don't think so. Let them go to give them the opportunity to bite my son next go 'round?

Nuh Uh. Ain't gonna happen.

:yeahthat: It isn't too hard to tell the difference between a feral cat and a house cat. If you think it is a house cat, then release it so it can crap in your flower bed again.

Nearly 100 cats/kittens were euthanized last year, around this time, in the Mechanicsville area because so many had rabies. It is a no brainier that something like rabies could completely spread through a colony of felines and to other animals with very little effort, so trapping them and going to the Humane Society is the best answer. They have connections with rescues that will take some feral cats/kittens and try to work with them but the risk is too great to let them roam around.

Dixie, you are doing the right thing.

Ferral cats are a different and dangerous thing. If the cats she's trapped are ferral they need to go. If they're somone's pets it's just sad, that's all I'm saying. :bawl:

But hey... you're talking to a girl who was having fits trying to save a freakin' groundhog the other day, remember.

I have no problem with trapping and getting rid of feral cats. I do have a problem with trapping someones pet though.

But this is just another reason my cat stays inside...I don't want him to be someone else's responsibility or problem. And for the feral cats that come in my yard to crap in my flower bed...that is what I have dogs for!!!
