If I may ...
And yet, the old fire house building they had was still just fine and had several more decades, if not more, of serviceable use. There was no need to spend the over $11,000,000, $11 Million dollars, to replace it.
Did you ever go into their old building? The original part (4 bays and part closest to Rt. 4) was built in 1959 over 50 years ago. There were 3 additions added in later years with the last in the early 1990's. The concrete floors were cracking and had been patched throughout. The floor heat had several leaks that had to be repaired. The bay doors were narrow and there was only about 6" clearance on each side going in and out. Today's apparatus is much larger (wider/longer) than the apparatus of pre-1990. There were 2 offices (8'x10') shared by 4 officers and several 4 drawer and lateral file cabinets. The new building as I toured it is set up much better as Bann stated. More office space individual bunkrooms to facilitate the male and female members. As I recall, they have 12 members living in the station. Unfortunately, they still have to stack the apparatus to get all of it inside the building.
