Strange, who makes the ones with no RF connector.

As for cable to TV, Coax to cable/converter box, cable/converter to TV via HDMI.
Do you have a cable box? If so, use the HDMI connector from that.
If you are just using the cable with no box, you'd have to have the RF input, otherwise you won't be able to tune the channel you want. You might be able to get a cable tuner box with an HDMI or component/composite video out.
My cable comes directly into a modem I purchased. Leaves the modem to a 3-way splitter then to a wireless router and the TV. See attached sketch.

I don't know what HDMI cables are... :blushing:

My husband says LED is better... I can't even tell the difference between regular and high-definition so I just listen to everyone else and agree that the picture is spectacular. :whydidwespend2000dollarsonthisTV: :coffee:

Seriously??

Watch a football game on a regular TV than go to the other room and look at it on an HD TV.. the difference is HUGE!!

Like the ability to read or not read the names on the backs of the Jersey difference..

Just can't watch regular definition TV anymore.

HDMI (high definition media/multimedia interface cable). Basically replaces your red, white and yellow RCA cables for VCR's and DVD players of the past with a single cable capable of carrying much more data over a digital connection.

Do not buy from Best Buy. HDMI cables can range from $3 each to well over $200. I have used nothing but the cheap $3, $6 and $10 cables with no issues. Ordered a 20' for the projector and it was like $18, runs fine with 3D and everything.

It's not the TV.. it's your signal.

You have an incredibly bad picture because you have an incredibly bad service..

Watching a standard signal on an HDTV is like playine a BETA tape in a VHS machine.. IF it works it's probably going to SUCK!

Oh boy....

In your config, you need the RF tuner in the TV to select channels. If the TV doesn't have an RF input, it probably doesn't have an RF tuner, only digital. You'd need a box between the splitter and the TV to tune RF channels and feed it to the TV as something other than RF.

You can't ask the cable company to provide it, or they'll charge you for the box and service.

If you ever want to try an antenna, you'll need the RF input as well.

Something like this?

Channel Master High Definition Digital Tuner with HDMI and Component Video Output | CM7001 | Channel Master

Do you have a DVD/VCR with a tuner? If so, your cable could plug into that, and the output into the TV as component/composite. But like was said, the overall quality of the picture will be poor.

Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Why bother whith HDMI if he's using a standard signal?

Not going to improve..

Because the TVs he's looking at don't have an RF connector, forcing him to use component, composite or HDMI. HDMI is a simple one-cable connection for both audio and video. Just easier, even if there is no benefit in display.

My 65" old projection TV worked fine with the same set up.

The TV I have now auto programmed itself and has the RF connector. Sounds like my choice better have an RF connector.

you should have a 2 way splitter before the modem. 1 coax to the modem and one the the hd box for the tv. hook the tv up to the cable box with a HDMI cable. The wireless router should be hooked up to the modem via a rj48 cable. Come on I am a girl and know this :poorbaby:

What I didn't show on my sketch is the Tivo which actually feeds the TV. But even when I connect directly to the TV, the picture is not the quality it should be.

Looks like I'll probably go with the Sony link.

Actually, you're right. That got by me. The TV should be tapped before the modem, not after...

Oh. Does the TIVO have an HDMI output? Problem solved.
