They have the same marriage rights as anyone else in this country, no one is stopping them from getting married as millions have before them. What they want are special rights.

I've heard that argument a thousand times and it has never made sense to me. What special rights do you mean?

Wow. Sounds like the exact same stuff I hear my parents talk about when they discuss the whole "civil rights" movement.

Gays are disgusting people. We should deny them the right to vote, force them to eat at their own restautants, and for god's sakes starting having Mens Room, Ladies Room, and Fairy Room. Sure don't want some crazy queer taking a peak at the dangling fury while I'm trying to pee. And just imagine where those mouths have been. Gotta start having Straight and Gay waterfountains. They need their own grocery stores too. I don't like where their hands may have been, then have their hands all over the food of the "good people". They shouldn't have a license to drive either. They use their cars to drive to these filthy gay sex parties and by letting them have a license we are showing them we support this activity.

How about you tell me why they can't get married.

Why shouldn't a gay union have the same legal sanction as a straight union, as opposed to a religious sanction? From strictly a governmental standpoint, a marriage is a legal agreement that offers some protection for both parties. I like Sleuth's idea--keep the legal issues and the religious issues separate.

Couple questions...

While I am not for gay couples having kids this is really right wing inflammatory stuff

...what in the first post is suppossed to be inflamatory?

...and...

Homophobic horseshit.

...what in the first post is homophobic?

I guess I'm missing the excitement in all this. It seems rather obvious that any group, Boy Scouts, NAMBLA, Bible study or Chess Club would be expressing their thoughts and values, right?

Our kids get 'indoctrinated' every day with the reality of living in a home with a mom and a dad, a man and a woman, and all that that entails, from how we fight to how we love, how we make decisions and impose rules and give rewards.

GSLEN and PFLAG have an agenda, their version of reality and their success, like Joe Camel or parents, rests in getting to consumers at as early an age as possible.

So my kids learn that there are plenty of people whose lives mainly revolve around their sexual identity?

If we promote well at home, the kids will have learned that it's OK to be heterosexual, that, when the time comes for them to make a choice, with all our flaws and weaknesses, hetero has alot going for it and that we, however boring, are people to.

Maybe we should start a club or support group? There aren't any that I'm aware of. Maybe it's because most of what we do as heteros has nothing to do with sexual identity.

Maybe if we get MTV to produce it...?

Although I don't think you intend it that way, Larry, that is exactly what is inflammatory. Many parents hear things like that and imagine gangs of gays stalking schoolyears and preying on their children, like Aqualung eyeing little girls with bad intent.

I can acknowledge that some lesbians choose to be that way. But I still can't buy the idea that a straight person can be "recruited" by propaganda or pressure from someone else. We're talking about sexuality and relationships, not Scientology.

Apparently you because you're being incredibly defensive.

Non-mainstream people say things like, "I'm okay, you're okay" when what they REALLY mean is, "I'm okay, you're an azzhole." They use words like "diversity", when what they really mean is "anyone who doesn't think like me is wrong".

The gay groups are trying to normalize aberrent behavior and anyone who doesn't accept it is called a "homophobe". Then there's the hypocrisy and double-standard: they can start all the gay clubs they want and they think that's not only perfectly fine, but a needed service. Yet when high school kids start a traditional values club, they're ripped apart by these very same groups. So let's talk about intolerance.

People have a right to not like gays and not want to legitimize gay relationships. Just like you have the right to not like whoever you don't like. So you can sneer and say "homophobe" to the gal that wrote this article, but what that makes YOU is a "traditional-values-phobe". And the reason you sneer at traditional values is because it passes a judgement on the lifestyle YOU want to live, yet don't want to be judged on.

So there. :neener:

But it's the truth. And if people are inflamed by it, that's their own insecurity talking.

I would not be offended if some homosexual accused me of indoctrinating my kids into the heterosexual lifestyle. I'd be like, "Well, duh." Yet gays start spontaneously combusting if anyone DARES to suggest they're trying to indoctrinate. It's the difference between being comfortable with your choices and defensive about them.

Same reason you can't marry your cat, or your sister or a 4 year old. None of the above situations promote the traditional social interaction that has developed healthy, intelligent, safe, law abiding children in stable households.

Marriage laws were not invented in the United States. They were most likely invented by the Sumerians 6000 years ago who also invented the alphabet and writing, the calendar, western government structure, the modern form of literature, and parlaimentary law.

Personally I believe couples should be qualified to get married nowadays. In otherwords, no crack abuse, no child abuse and you have to be halfway sane. You need to get qualified to get annulled and divorced, right?
