In the opening of the hardcover, Brown says that the historical information (ie the whole grail theory) is based on actual research. It would be more accurate to say that it is based on the research done for another book "Holy blood, holy grail", with additions and exaggerations by Brown. He never comes out and says openly that it is real history, nor does he completely move under the cover of fiction. This is probably intentional as a means to rack up sales. Conspiracy theories are seductive to some people and there is just enough grey area between real historical information, unknown information and supposition to dazzle the uninformed. The movie will have all the historical weight of Indiana Jones.Club'nBabySeals said:That's true, but I don't see that Dan Brown has ever claimed that The DaVinci Code was anything other than fiction, either...

If the Catholic Church can cover up for pedophile priests and leave them free to prey on the children of God, what's so far-fetched about having a sect that will actually kill to keep the doctrine intact? The Church also collaborated with the Nazis, so I think it's already been established that the Catholic Church will do literally anything to protect its reputation and retain power.
Well, it's true. :shrug:Larry Gude said:I think I'll start sleeping in the basement...

"The Word"? Oh come on. It was on the New York Times bestseller list, for weeks.
They made a mini-series. With David Janssen. You know - "The Fugitive". No, the original.
The story revolves around a newly discovered manuscript written by Jesus' brother - which claims he NEVER died on the cross, but survived, married, had children. You know, kind of like the Da Vinci codes says. In the story however, it was a brilliant, BRILLIANT forgery devised by a man determined to destroy Christianity - it ends ironically with people even MORE interested in Christianity, which amazes me, because it totally refutes probably the most important truths about Christ.
Never heard of it? Really?

If you don't understand that novels are works of FICTION, you're an idiot.

You miss that the Christians were around long before the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is an outgrowth of the Roman Empire. The early Christians were persecuted and killed by the Roman Empire. It was the Romans that tried, convicted, and nailed Jesus to a cross. But they are not to blame. It was all part of God's plan of salvation.vraiblonde said:I still don't see what all this fuss is about. Which "Church"? Most often when someone says, "the Church" they mean the Catholic Church.vraiblonde said:Dut dut
I didn't say anything about Christians in general, or even Catholics (the ones I know are fine people). I'm talking specifically about the Church itself, and the Church leadership.

I specifically said the Catholic Church.2ndAmendment said:Which "Church"? Most often when someone says, "the Church" they mean the Catholic Church.
