The Doggy Snapped!

Hubby just called to inform me that our dog, jack/maltese mix, just bit our daughter in the face. He's said the dog's gotta go! The pup is a little over a year old and she's never done anything like this before. Do you suppose it could be due to the fact that she's not been spayed yet?

I hate to call it quits b/c my daughter loves this dog to death. Hubby told me that daughter did nothing to cause it...she was just trying to pet her and she snapped! I don't want to get rid of her. What should I do?

Are you sure the dog didn't get spooked? Maybe she was sleeping and got frightened? Your daughter didn't pull or hit her? And are we talking a big bite, your daughter is cut & bleeding, or just a bark in the face?

Try watching the Dog Whisperer. They have clips on the internet. He really helps. No kidding.

He said the skin's broken on her lip. He overdoes it a bit when stuff like this happens, so I'll have to see for myself when I get home. No blood gushing or anything like that, though.

Nope. Daughter was sitting in her chair and the dog walked up. D reached her arm out to pet her and she bit her on the face (that's how the hubby explained it). When husband picked her up she snapped at him.

Get rid of the dog...you don't have to put the dog down, but be honest with whomever you surrender the dog to about why you're not keeping it.

How old is your daughter?

I have a Jack Russell and it clearly doesn't recommend they live in a house with children under the age of 5. He gets aggressive when eating and when woken up, and about a year or so ago, he started attacking the door when we leave. I don’t know a thing about the temperament of a maltese.
