The Doggy Snapped!

How old is your daughter?
Has this ever happened before?
IMHO-spaying really has nothing to do with it-unless the dog is in heat?!
Who is in charge of the dog? By that I mean who is the "boss BIA"?
Jack/Maltese is an interesting mix-snippy dogs to begin with-no harm intended dog lovers!
Please, if you and the hubby decide to "get rid of it", don't give it to the local animal control/shelter-especially if you tell them it bit your daughter!
Sorry this happened, me thinks there's more to this story!

I have a Jack Russell and it clearly doesn't recommend they live in a house with children under the age of 5. He gets aggressive when eating and when woken up, and about a year or so ago, he started attacking the door when we leave.

She'll be 5 next month. She knows better, as she's been told numerous times not to mess w/ the dog while it's eating, etc. Dunno?

Okay can't lurk on this one. I've owned 4 Jack Russels, one I own curently. They can be high strung. I agree with having a look at what the dog whisperer has to offer. I think it goes without saying to seperate the dog from the child till you decide what to do. If you need someone to take the dog look for Jack Russel Rescue. They are a no kill for troubled Jack Russels.

My mom can whisper to her all she wants.

The thing about Jack Russell’s is the injury they inflict is usually no worse than what was inflicted on them. <- I’m not pulling that statement out my ass, that is actually what the description of the breed says.

I kept my JR after it bit my child. I found out my son went and tried to pick him up while he was sleeping and he snapped and left an impression and slightly broke the skin on his face.

I haven’t had an incident since at all and that was nearly 3 years ago.

Sorry for the time delay in my post-
As far as the Dog Whisperer-he's great BUT you need help now-no time to watch tapes or the show.
Do you have a crate?
Does fuzzyface (your dog, not hubby) use one?

This annoys me because I have teenagers who have to be told something repeatedly before they stop doing it. So, yeah, she might "know better" but she forgets because she's just a little kid.

"Here's our new puppy, children! But remember not to ever touch him when he's eating, sleeping or playing. Now let's all have fun with the puppy!"

Yep, she's got a crate and she uses it every day.

Bye-bye doggie. Neither breed is recommended for small children. I had a maltipoo many years ago. Bit my son in the face. He was 5 and didn't provoke the dog at all. It was completely out of the blue. I gave him to a friend who had no children and my friend was aware of the problem.

Exactly. I would not own a dog that me or any of my family members had to tippy toe around.

That's the thing, though. The daughter was watching cartoons and the dog approached her. Didn't provoke the dog whatsoever.

Pixie says that dogs don't just bite "out of the blue". She says it's the little kid's fault for living in the dog's house and not sitting completely still when the doggie doesn't want any noise or motion.

Hell, most adults can't be expected to remember everything. :lmao:

I don't see why her child should be expected to tiptoe around the dog. She was there first! If the dog can't act straight, it gets shipped off. One of our dogs bit my brother in the face when he was little, and my dad took him to the SPCA that day.
