I think more appropriately is to say that the media is what the status quo isn't. Whatever the administration is, they will be the opposite to turn the world into one giant reality tv program for ratings.
Sorry, dude - I remember the Clinton years and the MSM couldn't have been bigger fans of his. Do you not remember how Drudge got famous? How Fox News got started?

I also remember CNN coming to prominence during its highly supportive coverage of the Gulf War in 91, even firing a correspondent (Peter Arnott)who dared speak out against it. ABC Nightline was forged largely as a vessel to question Jimmy Carter's handling of the Iran Hostage situation in 79/80.

I have no memory of Ted Koppel actually "questioning" Jimmy Carter's methods or competency. Of course, I was just a kid, but my memory is that Koppel was simply highlighting an event, not busting on Carter.

I do, however, remember the news dudes making a large deal out of "October Surprise", when Ronald Reagan and George Bush supposedly bribed the Ayatollah to hold the hostages until after the election. I had a conversation with a pal the other day, who *still* believes that garbage, even though there's never been any evidence of it. He said that "there are documents" and "everyone" knows that it happened. He, of course, swears he's a moderate.

Hmmm, there's a flaw there.. I'm a Republican, and I'm an atheist.. so you might want to use a smaller paint brush..

Republicans seem to believe that a person despite color, religion or creed can succeed in this country without the governemnts help. THere is no race more capable then the other, no race or religion that is smarter then the other, in that regard nobody needs special help or special crutches to succeed. Any kind of help should be considered an insult..

Well Bleek, because you are purple you are not as capable as the green people so we are going to make special allowances for you. We'll get you into college because we know you can't do it without us... (THIS is not what you'd hear most Republicans say, but it is what you will hear most Islamocrats say)

If I was 'Bleek' I would take this as an insult to my intelligence and ability.. and would consider it a racist program.

So now, point me to a program where the Republicans want to get more involved/ more in control in the daily lives of American Citizens, moreso then the Islamocrats do..

Here's a pretty complete assesment of the October Surprise. I doubt that anyone can honestly call the Village Voice biased toward the right!

I am an independent. I don't believe any press is independent. It will always reflect its owners opinions and agendas. To expect unbiased reporting is ridiculous. Reporters see everything through a filter of their own beliefs or by the direction of the person that signs their paycheck.

As to the deaths in Iraq..how many people were murdered in America by Americans in the same time frame? I bet the numbers are comparable and last I noticed our country was not in the middle of a civil war.

To all I have only one question. Do you want to fight there or here in America? Because if we stop fighting there we will most surely be at war in our backyard in time. They're already here and they're just waiting.

No, I remember the continual outrage and daily mudsliging reality tv type coverage of Monica, his past indescretions, lawsuits by private citizens and the Whitewater affair. I don't remember much praise to him over the cacophony of moral indignation.

No, but what I'll bet you DO remember is the media downplaying it ("it's just sex") and going after Ken Starr like rabid dogs.

They also had their "investigative journalists" lay Monica Lewinsky's young life open like a gutted trout, because somehow (at 22) she was such a manipulative, evil temptress that it was HER fault the President of the United States of America couldn't keep his * in his pants.

Not to mention the way they went after Linda Tripp, the ONLY whistle-blower in history that the media didn't bow down before and worship.

So there was "a cacophony of moral indignation" but it wasn't directed toward Clinton, if you care to remember.

I don't remember any downplaying. I remember democrats trying to downplay it, but the news media ate it up like candy. Never mind that other things are going on in the world, "put that camera on the President! It means ratings!"

Yes, but what I'm saying to you is that they didn't criticize Clinton over it - they criticized and ripped apart his accusers instead.

Yes the criticized him. Are you not remembering the "is" fiasco? Lord, that seemed to go on forever. The media criticized everyone in order to make sure it all played out like a cheap daytime soap opera.

Later, when I learned that there were no WMD's and that Bush had intentionally ignored all intel reports that were to the contrary of what he wanted to be told, I changed my opinion.

You know what they say about opinions, not to mention one important fact that WMD's were found. :buttkick:

The war against terrorism is a joke.
Bush is always very careful to mention 9/11 very quickly after saying anything about Iraq. Why is that, do you think? The average American thinks that we invaded Iraq as a response to 9/11, despite the fact that the two are mutually exclusive.

Your brain and your thought output are mutually exclusive!! :smack:

Those were pre-existing old munitions and in no where near the quantities that we were supposedly going to find. This is why WMD's are not mentioned anymore. Everyone knows that the WMD reason was an intel mistake, but Hussain violated just about every other UN resolution out there so it doesn't really matter. The US Navy has been capturing oil smugglers since just about day one afer desert storm.
