Germany, 82-85. When I was a platoon leader, we were under the H-series TO&E for cav squadrons. My cav platoon had four M60A3 TTS (we turned in our M60A3 spotlights just before I got there; laser and thermal on the A3TTS was FANTASTIC!), two M113A2 (with Dragons), two M901 ITV, one M113A1 "command track" (that's be me) and one M106 4.2' mortar track (proud to say I qualified on both the M60A3 and M106). Of course, at both troop and squadron level we had the assorted M113, M578, and M577 command tracks, as well as my favorite, the M88. As for wheels, M151 1/4 tons and M35 2 1/2 tons. The squadron support platoon had a bunch of 5 tons. The jeeps were a blast, the 2 1/2 & 5 tons always broke down!
Vietnam era slanted pocket fatigues and steel pot. Kevlar helmets showed up as I was getting ready to PCS out. Never used Nomex; too expensive. So we used MOPP as a poor substitute.
Absolutely loved it those several years. Thanks for bumping some really good old memories.
