Today's 2 hr early dismissal...

My issue isn't so much with tomorrow. It's with the collection of time off between today, tomorrow, and next Wednesday.
Wait until you hit the 2nd full week of October and find they are only in school Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of that week...:faint:

Socki, your kids are all still very young. I believe you might have a different perspective on these "breaks" once they've hit higher levels of education. My 9th grader has a light homework night if she only has 3 hours worth of work. This includes Fridays and weekends. She takes advantage of the "extra" time to stay on task with the multiple long term assignments she's juggling along with the daily assigned work.

:yay: EXACTLY what i was thinking...and that i wish i had the day off to enjoy a half day with my girlie-cutie!! I could use a nice ride this afternoon to explore the new logging trails being created in the neighborhood. :frown:

Your kids won't be little for long.

Now that we are no longer using a sitter, I'm LOVING these days off during the week. When they are off, I get to take off. Any day not at work is a good day guaranteed!! Fridays are even better because it's an automatic 3 day week-end!!

Sorry - I'm with Socki. I remember well when my kids were young and money was way tight, and paying for daycare so a bunch of whining teachers can have a day off was a large problem. School JUST started and already with the Fridays off? That's crap. They just had the whole summer off.

Must be nice to be a government employee with a lobbying group that gets you goodies so you can live it up on the taxpayer dime. :yay:

Not to mention that this is why kids go to school until almost July - because of all these stupid "in-service" days.

And see, I'm of the opinion that a longer summer gap results in less "carry-over" of what they've learned the previous year. This in turn results in longer "review and catch-up" the beginning of the next school year. :nerd:

Thank you. While I may get oodles of leave per year, I do not get half of the days off that teachers do.

Also, most daycare charge more for the full days off when your kid is just before and after school.

Just what the teachers need, more time off. :killingme I guess working 9 months with fall, Christmas and spring breaks just isn't enough time off. UFB!!

:nono: you just wait til tonight when the teachers see this after school.

Speaking of winter break... I've noticed we don't have the full two weeks in a row off like we did last year.

I agree that it's a huge PITA if you don't have good daycare. I'm fortunate that my daycare girl is open most of the days that school is off. That being said I do have to pay extra for those days. I can afford it but there are those that struggle. The flip side is that school is in almost a month longer than it was when I went to school. We went back to school the day after Labor Day and got out the second week in June. School vs summer rates are cheaper.

Some kids are participating in the fair, and I guess the school did early dismissals to allow these kids to get home early to get ready for fair that they are participating in the activies such as sheep, cows, pigs, goats, etc. showing.

Kids did more farming years ago and they didn't get extra time off for it.
