Today's 2 hr early dismissal...

They just had over 2 months of a damn break. Not to mention that they get the weekends for breaks.

I'm going to type this slowly. They are required to attend school for a set amount of days each school year. If they don't get the days off here and there throught the school year, then it equates to a longer summer break. The fact that they are getting sporadic days off throughout the year is equating to a shorter summer break in the long run. You aren't being cheated.

They have 9 early dismissals this year.
I purposely didn't count the 3 early dismissal days at the end of the school year because that happens every year and I don't recall a Sockie complaint thread about that so I considered it a moot point.

And see, I'm of the opinion that a longer summer gap results in less "carry-over" of what they've learned the previous year. This in turn results in longer "review and catch-up" the beginning of the next school year. :nerd:

:pffft:

It didn't hurt you and it didn't hurt me, either. I dare say that you and I retained more over our long summer vacations than kid nowadays even learn. What? Are they going to forget how to read and write over a three month period?

Teachers 30 years ago didn't seem to have a problem managing their class work in the time allotted to them. What seems to be the issue these days? (Besides, of course, unions whose job it is to get more for less...)

I fully understand that. I went to 3 different school systems. St. Mary's is the only one that started before Labor Day and finished after the 2nd week of June.

I believe the issue these days involves the new lessons regulations and mandates pushed forth by the state in order to support the mandatory testing (who's results affect funding for the school system) that you and I didn't have to go through back in the day.

Well then move out of the county.... Cause the Fairs in Southern Maryland takes a higher priority over you kids education. Heck Id Move out of maryland if I were you...

Hell take them to Cali. San Diego has all year round school. I wonder how many 2 hour early dismissals followed by days off they have?

Oh, ok... Knock down the successful parents that can afford to take care of their kids, and not the ones who rely on State run Day care to babysit the other children... Did the department of education force you or Socki to have children??? How is her lack of planning the states fault?

Yeah, I guess when I realized teachers were going to get all these days off every school year, I should have had my children killed. Great idea! Wish I was as smart as you. :yay:

For the record, I didn't have state run daycare (whatever the hell that is). And I also didn't get gubmint cheese.

So you would rather them have a longer than 2-month summer break?
I'm saying that it makes more sense than these stupid "breaks" throughout the year.

I'd love to move. I'd love to move to somewhere more affordable. I'd never move off the East (Best, sorry Drew) Coast but I'm not against year round school.

State run daycare = public education...

I thought teachers were required to work tomorrow.

they are. apparently some people work under the delusion that just because the kids have the day off, the teachers do too. the vast majority ( if not ALL) early dismissal days are only early dismissal days or the students. Teachers are still at school working. many of the fridays off that people are complaining about are only of for the students, teachers will still be in their classrooms, attending meetings or even attending conerences out of town.
