Today's 2 hr early dismissal...

I know nothing
Sorry - I'm with Socki. I remember well when my kids were young and money was way tight, and paying for daycare so a bunch of whining teachers can have a day off was a large problem. School JUST started and already with the Fridays off? That's crap. They just had the whole summer off.

Must be nice to be a government employee with a lobbying group that gets you goodies so you can live it up on the taxpayer dime. :yay:

Not to mention that this is why kids go to school until almost July - because of all these stupid "in-service" days.

Oh, ok... Knock down the successful parents that can afford to take care of their kids, and not the ones who rely on State run Day care to babysit the other children... Did the department of education force you or Socki to have children??? How is her lack of planning the states fault?

Thank you. While I may get oodles of leave per year, I do not get half of the days off that teachers do.

Also, most daycare charge more for the full days off when your kid is just before and after school.

My day care charges a set amount per week regardless if the kids have a scheduled day off from school or if they are out sick  I even have to pay the same amount if the provider gets sick and cant work a day during the week.

Our old daycare used to be closed when schools were closed. Totally sucked! Even if you do have the leave, it's not always the best thing to be gone from work so much! Thank goodness now our daycare is open regardless of the school schedule.

You dumbass! I pay for my daycare. It takes a huge chunk out of my pay. But, I sucessfully take care of my children.

I'm actually glad that schools are closing early today - DS gets out pretty early as is now that he's in middle school but he's fairly active in 4-H and in order to get the goats ready to show tonight we need to get to the fairgrounds no later than 3 I'm guessing - this is after spending the last 2 nights over there. While I don't think that school is not important I think the skills he learns from raising and showing his animals are also equally important and glad that we don't have to choose one over the other.

Actually, alot of daycares are closed tomorrow. Thank God mine is open because her kids are grown. But she almost took the day off because she wanted to take her grand kid.

Good luck to your son! My sister and I were in 4-H growing up (showed sheep and goats), and we'd walk to the fairgrounds after school on Thursdays to get ready! Good times!

That's what I was thinking of. School did early dismissals because they know that some kids need to be at the fair before 3 pm.

While I realize that daycare issues is a problem for many parents who work full time, and I can understand the issues.

Did you have a half day the Thursday before? That was what the post was about.
It's not a 1/2 day... it's a 2-hour early dismissal. A full day of school is more than 4 hours. No, we did not get out two-hours early the Thursday before fair Friday. Are you really saying a 2-hr early dismissal is detrimental to your child's ability to learn his lessons?

Add them up for the year. They get a lot of 2 hour early days.

Are you not reading the thread? Socki HAS daycare for her kids.

I repeat... are you saying your son leaving school two hours early 6 different days throughout the school year is detrimental to his ability to absorb, comprehend and apply his lessons...
