Toys for Tots rejects Jesus dolls

I think the Corp was completely right in this decision. It maybe a "Christmas" program, but christians are not the only ones getting the gifts.

I'm opposed to these Jesus dolls. I'm not bothered because of their religious nature or teaching intent, nor am I opposed for political or constitutional reasons.

I'm opposed because of the idea of a "Jesus" doll. While I'm all for giving Jesus the honor of celebrating His birthday and wishing everyone "Merry Christmas", I find it a bit appalling in reducing the Savior of the World, Creator of the Universe to a toy. What happen to little Johnny's Jesus doll in a couple of years when the head pops off and one of the arms is missing and is run over by the lawn mower? Or worse yet, some sadistic kid, like the brat in "Toy Story", decides to "crucify" his Jesus doll. Where's the respect in that?
Evidently it is ok to make a Jesus doll, but don't even think of drawing a picture of Mohammed. I wonder if christians could be justified in burning down the offices of the distributor? I will guarantee that the Jesus doll is made in China also.

I haven't read EVERY post here, so I apologize if this has already been said.

This wasn't a group of people who said "we have these extra toys, let's give them away!"

They said "Let's make a toy to convince people to beleive as we do. While we're at it, let's use the USMC to distribute these toys."

Toys for Tots was right to reject this contribution. The dolls were not donated to make kids happy, they were donated to further the goals of the people who donated them.

Then why are the people getting the gifts celebrating Christmas?

"we have these extra toys, let's give them away!"

My impression is that these Jesus dolls DIDN"T SELL IN THE FIRST PLACE. Nobody wanted a Jesus Doll. Apparently there was no "Tickle Me Elmo" or "Cabbage Patch" phenomena craze with this product. So now the manufacturer has to have a dumping ground to clear their inventory.

Yep...and board games, baby dolls, roller skates, story books, art supplies, etc. None of the above items spreads any particular belief.

LOL, I got kicked out of Borders for moving all the Jesus dolls to the fiction section.

Religous issues aside: it's pretty effing ignorant and rude for a charity - one who's begs for crap every year - to throw voluntary donations back into the faces of donors.

I guess you're right. They should have just accepted them and tossed them out.

Whatever.

If I'm on the street begging for food, and someone buys me a hotdog, I'm not going to smack it out of his hand because I want better food.

I'm sure they could have found children who would have appreciated the toy. It's not like Christians are that hard to come by.

It's not a matter of better or worse, and I don't think they have time to ask all the parents "what would your child like for xmas", then rummage through all the gifts to find it.

It's a matter of a beggers becoming choosers.

I don't know about you, but I find that concept to be repugnant.

Ya' know what? If I were an 8 year old kid, I'd be pretty disappointed to get a Jesus doll instead of a Barbie, and it's about making the kids happy during the holidays. Why do people lose sight of what the charity is about? It's not about spreadin' the freakin' word.

Easter is the most important holiday.

I guess it matters if you mean, theologically, or culturally. NOTHING touches Christmas, culturally, in this country. Not the 4th of July, Thanksgiving or Halloween combined. Easter may describe an event of greater importance to Christians than Christmas, but everyone knows when Christmas is. And you don't even have to be a Christian to notice - but you can BE a very nominal Christian and totally MISS Easter. NON-Christians will host Christmas parties, have a Christmas tree and even sing Christmas carols.

It's the one holiday on the calendar that most people will keep, even if they don't believe.

Actually, the PROBLEM with Christmas is, it's gotten to be so big CULTURALLY, it's surpassed its significance as a Christian holiday. People have been saying "put the Christ back in Christmas" since I was a boy.
