The Macon, Georgia, man — who was identified as 34-year-old Sean Patrick Cirillo — allegedly called Greene’s office and said he was going to shoot the Republican congresswoman in the head with a sniper rifle, WSB-TV
reported. In the call, which was shared with WSB-TV, Cirillo allegedly claimed to be a major donor before threatening to kill Greene and her family.
“I’m going to kill her next week. I’m going to murder her,” he said,
reportedly screaming into the phone. “You don’t think you’re going to get payback? You’re going to die. Your family is going to die.”
Cirillo was charged with using communication devices to make threats — a felony — according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, CNN
reported.
Greene said she had to close her district office in Dalton, Georgia, after the threat was made, adding that death threats are nothing new for her as she faces them almost daily. Another Georgia Republican, Rep. Rich McCormick, had to close his district office in Cumming after staff there received “serious threats of violence.”
