Unwanted Dog

We have a new couple who moved into the house behind ours. They have a little pomeranian mix. They were keeping him penned in a kennel on the deck and the poor little thing would just bark constantly. I approached them about the barking and suggested they should bring the dog into the house since dogs are happier when they're with their "pack". Their reply was " it poops and pees on the floor". I just shook my head and left. The next morning the dog was across the street, I was getting ready to leave for work and tried to coax it to me but he wanted no parts of that. Last night, he was outside my daughters window barking all night. I dont want to call animal control, I'm afraid he will be put to sleep. Any suggestions on what to do or who to call? Also, the couple dont appear to be living at the home, they come down on weekends to work on it, I dont think they take the dog with them when they leave as I have seen him during the weekdays.

call animal control. little dogs are popular and it has a chance of being saved by a rescue or adopted. And if it is put to sleep, it is far kinder than being locked in a pen outside the rest of its life or running free and being hit by a car who can't see it.

Can you tell the owners you plan on calling animal control unless they take better care of their dog?

:nono: that's not going to make anyone be good pet owners. It is going to make them HIDE not being a good pet owner. Either call or ignore it. Those are the two options.

How sad. But if they are leaving it alone like that I would definitely call animal control. Little dogs are adopted out more easily and even if it is ultimately out to sleep that is so much more humane than the way it is currently treated,

:yeahthat: That is how I got my dog, well my daughter took her. When they wanted her back we said we had pictures of her condition and we'd call Animal control so they backed off. They have other animals too. She turned out to be the best dog I've ever had. She had been starved and forced to live in a crate outside during almost a whole summer. She was full of fleas and so filthy from being next to a fire pit where trash was burned daily. After a bath, we found out she was white and black. She was terrified of thunderstorms but doesn't mind them so much now since she's been sitting with us during them under the covered porch while we reassuring her she's ok and loved.

Thanks, I like your idea. I will go over there again and tell them if they cant take care of the poor little guy, I will take it, even if its only until I find a permanent loving home for the little one. If they dont want to do that, then I will have to call animal control. I dont see a collar or tags on the dog either.

If you have tremendous trouble and can't take him, I'll try to help in anyway I can, I hate to see any animal mis-treated. This is beyond sad IMO.

Good Luck!

"Unwanted Dog"

The thread title and the mention of the dog being a Pomeranian, just stabbed me in the heart.

Who could "un-want" a Pom? Of course, if I could take in strays, or "un-wanted's", I'd have a zoo.

Let us know what happens. Hopefully something good.

Crap, I wouldn't even ask them. I would just rescue the poor thing.

There was a little Pomeranian sitting on the road at the end of my street in Leonardtown. I wonder...
Anyway, I think it is ridiculous that your neighbors' excuse is that the dog pees and poops on the floor. Do they actually think the dog will train itself? How old are they anyway? Ten? Irresponsible pet ownership makes me sick!
