Unwanted Dog

I kinda like the idea someone else had of stealing a dog that isn't being taken care of. Especially if it isn't something that AC will handle for whatever reason. Not that "I" would do that ..... but some would do it to save the dog.

Trust me Ark, I thought about it. The dog was/is beautiful male Rottie. Always had a softspot for Rotties cause my sister & bil use to breed and raise them. I didnt know this dog and he didnt know me so I was a little unsure about approaching him. Otherwise, he would've been nice and warm in my house while they were gone. Also, very hard to listen to him cry outside my window, since I lost my girl. Thank God she was so well taken care of and loved. There but by the Grace of God, could she have gone.

I agree I'd be apprehensive about approaching a Rottie that I didn't know too. Too bad we can't give those people a thin fur coat to wear then leave them outside in the rain.

The coming week it's going to be very cold outside.

Okay, what I was afraid of happened today. The people were not at home all weekend and the poor rottie was left tied up in the back yard again. My husband and I just came back from taking our granddog for a walk and saw the dog loose. He had gotten out of his collar and thru the fence. We tried calling the dog to us and he acted like he wanted to come over but just wasnt sure and took off down the street. My husband called animal control and they picked the dog up, they went to the owners home and knocked on the door but of course they werent home. They did leave a note on the door. I'm thinking of going the shelter to see the dog and what kind of temperment he has. I may be the proud of owner of beautiful rottie boy. If I cant take him, does anyone know of rottie rescue they may be interested in giving him a foster home until a responsible owner can be found?

They are probably going to give the owners a chance to redeem the dog right? Or do they know the dog was left all weekend?

We can only hope they don't let them have the dog back, but even so, what's to say they won't get yet another dog?

I'm not sure what the procedure is, but I told the A/C officer that the dog is left alone alot unattended. I'm hoping the fine for the dog running loose and not wearing tags which means he isnt licensed will be so expensive, they wont want him back. If I have to and he gets along with my granddog (cocker spaniel) I'll take him if only until I can find a suitable home for him. Just hate to see a dog treated that way. I hope they wont get another dog, dont understand why they want one if they're not going to take care of it.

Thank goodness for people like you are watching out for the poor dog!

Well the neighbor came over today around 3:30. She had just gotten home and saw the note from A/C. She wanted to know why we called A/C. I told her the circumstances. She accused my hubby and myself of turning her dog loose. I told her that was ridiculous, we would never approach a strange dog chained in the yard. We exchanged some words, nothing derogatory or hateful. At the end of the conversation she accused me of being a racist. LOL. I then asked her to remove herself from my property and to check with the shelter to get her dog back. Hopefully, if they do get the dog back, they will take of the poor thing properly and responsibly.

Doubt they will, why would they change?

I hate seeing Dogs on Chains. Recently, I saw a Pug out in the chilly weather, on a chain. That kind of dog can't tolerate extreme weather. They also have a Pit Bull on a Chain, with one of those Igloo Dog Houses. I don't think they are insulated either. In the past, I have actually knocked on people's door, asking them if they wanted the dog. They actually told me that I could have it. So maybe, you could ask your neighbor if you can have the Dog. The worst thing she could do, is say "NO". I have a Dog that I have to Kennel when I am out of the house. She has a nice bed, and a Guinea Pig Water Bottle hooked up, and all the Chewies she wants in with her. At the MOST, she is in the cage maybe 5 hours a week, and I feel guilty as sin when i do that.!! Her Kennel is in the House next to my Desk too.
Hey Ark, I have a question for you. I take my dog with me in the Car when I am making short trips around town. If it is warmer that 55 degrees, I don't take her. She has a bed, and blankets, and is wearing her Doggie Sweater too. I heard recently, that it is against the Law, no matter HOW cool it is, to take your Dog in the Car. Unless of course, you are taking it to the Vet. I've asked Tri-County animal Control, as well as the Vets, and they say they haven't heard this. I can say that I heard it from a Lady that works with Rescues. TIA.

I meant to say that I heard it is against the Law to leave the pup in the car, even IF you are in the Store, etc. for a few minutes. I never take her when I'm going to be away from the car for more than 20 minutes, give, or take.

Really? That's just crazy. If that IS the case, then it's probably being done because of the people who can't determine when it's appropriate to leave your dog in a car and when it's not.
