Unwanted Dog

There was a little Pomeranian sitting on the road at the end of my street in Leonardtown. I wonder...
Anyway, I think it is ridiculous that your neighbors' excuse is that the dog pees and poops on the floor. Do they actually think the dog will train itself? How old are they anyway? Ten? Irresponsible pet ownership makes me sick!

I'm not sure, I did notice this evening when I came home from work, he does have a small rope or leash around his neck. I tried to coax him over with food, but the poor thing is so shy. I did put a dish of dog food on my porch hoping he will be hungry enough to come up and then I may be able to catch him. We live right in Leonardtown,in close proximity to the firehouse. Not sure where in Leonardtown you are. I will keep everyone posted. I went over to the neighbors house but of course on one answered the door and no car in the driveway.

Sounds like you leave close to Pope St. My grandparents lived there before they died in the 80's. From what I remembered the neighborhood was nice but that was 30 years ago .

Parts of it are still nice. Other parts not so good. Laid food out for the dog again this morning, hoping it will feel safe enough to stay in the yard if it knows its going to get fed. Hoping to win him/her over by the end of the week.

We are neighbors, I'm right down the street. Does this little guy wander or stay on your street? That is horrible the owners don't take care of him. I'm afraid he'll get run over. If you should get him, before you call the animal shelter, please pm me. I may be able to take him or someone in my family could. We have a soft spot for Poms.

That is just disgusting that someone would do something like this. Heartless people.

OMG, what the hell is wrong with people. I will keep my eyes open for her. We dont live to far from Cedar Lane. The little pom is still loose, but the couple was home yesterday. I saw the pom following the owner around. I asked why the dog had a rope around his neck, he didnt answer and went in the house. Very odd people. Still laying food and water out for him.

Hi Neighbor, He seems to stay between our yard and his yard although I have seen him cross our street. In fact a gentleman who live across the street told me the dog is in his yard every morning. My feeling is, even when they are home, the dog is allowed to run all over the place. You cant miss him, he is light tan, face and body like a pom, but a little taller. Extremely shy. If I can get my hands on him, I intend to talk to the owner and offer to keep him since its apparent they dont want or take proper care of him. If he refuses, I'm threatening him with calling animal control. Has I said, the dog doesnt have a collar or tags and there is a law in Leonardtown that the dog has to be registered. Maybe the thought of a fine will encourage him to let me have the dog.

:nono: that's not going to make anyone be good pet owners. It is going to make them HIDE not being a good pet owner. Either call or ignore it. Those are the two options.

I agree, if they don't care about the dog then there is nothing anyone can say to change that fact. It's obvious that the dog needs to be housebroken. Once that is accomplished I am sure the dog will be a great family member for a DIFFERENT family.

There was a news story recently about dogs being stolen, and then the thief would put out "found" ads to try to collect a reward, other times they sell the dog to someone. People can be such scumbags!

Many years ago my mom had a beautiful pair of cavalier king charles spaniels (I know I mangled that spelling, lol) and they were stolen off of her back deck..Its so sad to hear her mention them, she never got them back.

Now, I wish I could get someone to come steal my idiot doggy..but I'm not that lucky

I'm right in town so doubtful I'll see him. Last year, there was a beautiful Pom that got loose here. A lady was walking him around to see if she could find the owner. I told her I would take him if she didn't, but I never heard from her so I'm sure she did. I was wondering if possibly it was the same one. I sure hope they'll let you have him. They don't take care of him so the right thing to do would be give him away. Keep us posted.

So a neighbor actually saw the woman reach over the fence and take the dog? If so, she had an agenda and I doubt he ever sees Benji again. Maybe she made assumptions that because the dog was scruffy and left outside it must be unloved and neglected and her "good deed" is actually something horrid.

Last winter sometime, there was a story on Channel 9 news about a 80 year old man whose little dog was stolen out of his yard in DC. Two or three days later someone brought him back. It was back in the yard one morning when he got up. I guess the person saw the news & actually had a conscience. Maybe this person will too if they hear how heartbroken the man is.

:yeahthat:He should contact the police and the news channels. If it's on TV it may make it harder for this person to sell the dog locally if that was the intent. Also, like the story above, maybe the dog would be returned if they saw it belonged to an older disabled man that was heartbroken. At least if someone saw the dog out with someone else it may ring a bell.
