Weird nasty bump

I cant believe all this chatter about a pet that you say means a lot to you.

IF it was your child, you would be at the ER in a flash.

Quit trying to get a diagnosis on the Forums from a poor photo and get your dog to your Vet ASAP!
(Yes, your photo is poor: not in focus, no tool for scale or color, and only 2 views)

GO TO YOU VET and quit the Forum guessing game!!!!!

And why Benedryl?
Just because someone said so in a post about Mast tumors in Boxers?
You a Doc or something to know what to medication to administer without seeing a Vet?

WOW, aren't we mean in the morning! She gave the Benedryl to the pooch in case it was a Bug Bite, and she thought it would help in the event it would start to itch. Also, thank God she did go on the forum to ask & post photos about the lesion. Some people might have just waited, and done nothing at all. All she was doing was asking for opinions, and not a diagnosis. She had full intentions of taking her Pup to the Vet. I thought her pictures were just fine. Not everybody is a Photographer like you! Now BE NICE!!

I sent a PM to Catt also, I think we use the same vet so I'm going to see if she had any other ideas of where I might get her checked out just to be sure.

I sent you a reply last night. Like Indy said, sometimes a needle aspirate will not show the cancer cells and it's best to get a biospy. It's also a good idea to get any lymph nodes near the area tested as well.

Although, when 'our' vet did the aspirate on Biscuit, it did show as positive and she referred me to Annapolis. I went there but just wasn't "feeling" the oncologist. Because Biscuit has a pretty bad genetic heart problem, he's been going to Dr. Braz-Ruivo at Dogs & Cats Veterinary Referral in Bowie. I decided to continue taking him there. Dr. Braz-Ruivo's wife is the oncologist there and the surgeon there was wonderful. She is no longer there but they do have another very well respected surgeon there. There is a very specific protocol to follow when performing surgery on mast cell tumors. Since they are histimine driven, they tend to "explode" if knicked and it's important to use benadryl and different instruments throughout the surgery.

I'd be happy to chat with you about my experience but please get this checked out as soon as possible. Mast cell tumors can come up over night..they can also disappear or get smaller..no two react the same.

I also use another vet from time to time at Prince Frederick Animal Hospital. She has Boxers and her parents also raise very nice, well-bred Boxers.

Shoot me a PM or an email (I belive you have that from our other conversations).

It's really sad because I do think she means well she just doesn't know how to speak to people. I hope when she grows up she can be a better communicator. That being said, I also sent you a pm. Please feel free to contact me if you need anything or you just want to talk.

Thank you again, I got your PM just now and I used to LOVE boxerworld.com but was actually kicked off b/c I have an underground fence for my two boxers. I mentioned it in a post and I guess that's not allowed.

Ha! I got kicked off once too. I was looking for a breeder before we got Indy. I learned my lesson and rejoined a few month later. You can be a guest and read the forums.

Maybe I'll have to rejoin, I was upset because I really lost some great photo's of my Chloe girl (she has since passed from Cancer).

Visited the vet today, was very pleased with Dr. Craig at Prince Frederick Animal Hospital. Not as pleased with the results. She said she was very shocked that the results were MCT because of Molly's age (18 months). We are doing some drops to attempt to shrink the tumor for approx 2-3 weeks and then surgery. She said to try these drops of Lick Granuloma Sol. Does anyone have any positive results with these drops ?

I am sorry for the diagnosis, but very happy you went to the see your Vet in person!
Is the occurrence of MST at 18 months related to genetic predisposition?

Good luck with the treatment!

Oh wow, I was afraid of that. Don't know anything about those drops but they do try to shrink the tumor with different things.

I'm glad you liked Dr. Craig, I really like her too.

Try to remain positive..and definitely change her diet to grain free and low carbs! If you need me for anything, ideas, an ear, whatever, you have my number.

Wow, I am sorry to hear that. Did you discuss beginning to use benadryl for the MCT? You can give 1 mg per pound twice a day. Also as Catt said to change her diet and go as low carb as possible. Also, do some research on vetalog and possibly discuss it with your vet. I heard good things about the results and not needing surgery. Please see below:

Mast Cell Tumor Rescue Boxer - Boxer Board

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. I pm'ed you my email and cell phone number.
