Wow, I am sorry to hear that. Did you discuss beginning to use benadryl for the MCT? You can give 1 mg per pound twice a day. Also as Catt said to change her diet and go as low carb as possible. Also, do some research on vetalog and possibly discuss it with your vet. I heard good things about the results and not needing surgery. Please see below:

Mast Cell Tumor Rescue Boxer - Boxer Board

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. I pm'ed you my email and cell phone number.

:banghead:.... forgot about you
:huggy:.... you are also a great one to lean on as well :buddies:

My boxer has a few of these on him... behind the ear, his paw, and a recent one near his rib cage.

I'm guessing you got them checked. This is also a MCT.

to the OP.. I'm sooo sorry you are going thru this too. I have a thread about my dogs journey. GOOD LUCK and lots of <3

I'm guessing you got them checked. This is also a MCT.

I had one of them looked at about a year ago. The other two have not been checked by a vet. My boxer is 9 and fairly healthy, despite being diagnosed with cancer last year. Quite honestly, I think the vet misdiagnosed him. But, even with his skin stuff, I see no reason to put him through surgery at his age.

histocytoma can often look like MCT's. They are very hard to tell apart without testing. They are bumps that will come up and then disappear. That was what they thought Indy had orginally, even after a needle biopsy we didn't get a positive result. Rarely does a dog get a MCT on his face. My advise is have all the bumps checked. A round of antibiotics will help a histocytoma go away faster.

I cant believe all this chatter about a pet that you say means a lot to you.

IF it was your child, you would be at the ER in a flash.

Quit trying to get a diagnosis on the Forums from a poor photo and get your dog to your Vet ASAP!
(Yes, your photo is poor: not in focus, no tool for scale or color, and only 2 views)

GO TO YOU VET and quit the Forum guessing game!!!!!

And why Benedryl?
Just because someone said so in a post about Mast tumors in Boxers?
You a Doc or something to know what to medication to administer without seeing a Vet?
Only you would compare an animal to a child. :smack:

And it looks like the forum Boxer guru's were unfortunately right.

How does your crow taste?

KDenise, I'm sorry to hear the news, but at the same time..I am happy that you came on the Forum, and sought help right away from the Vet. I am not familiar with MCT, and have never seen it, so I am thankful I know what it can look like now. Good luck with your Pup, and keep us posted with the progress.

Thanks everyone, I'm keeping thoughts and prayers positive. I think Molly has a lot in her favor, one being she is so young. The other being that we caught it so fast. Thanks to everyone because I honestly don't know I'd have made the attempt to get her checked out so dire if others hadn't had shared their experiences and knowledge. Thanks again to Catt for the ear( I was a little emotional last night).

I'm trying to find anyone who has more knowledge of these drops that the Dr. has asked me to apply. There is a distinct possibility that I may be wrong, but could it be possible that they are shrinking this tumor within 2 days? Is that even a possibility? It's def. changing in color, and not like a bad, weird color. And maybe it's wishful thinking but it seems to not be so puffy, but the diameter hasn't changed? Posting pix next. Hope crazy Katelin doesn't chime in. (maybe that'll deter her)

I'm sorry I'm not familiar with the drops but could it be treating the inflammation, redness, etc? Just a guess and would explain why its shrinking and looking better.

:huggy: wish you and Molly the best.

I don't know anything about it but I posted on boxerworld to see if anyone has used it or knows anything about it.

Sorry, this was it for replies:

The solution is typically used to DETER pets from licking so I suppose in a round about way that if the MCT were being made larger by licking it AND if this stuff really worked and the licking were to cease it *may* become smaller as in back to NORMAL size (for the tumor) and not swell up from the licking which could cause it to release histamine.
Sort of like Benedryl would do and we know for certain that it works is most cases. Stop or lesson the production of histamine and the reaction caused by the histamine release is lessened (swelling would go down).
Aside from injecting the tumor with medication, treating with chemo (long shot) or undergoing radiation treatments MCT's don't "shrink". You have to have something that actually fights the vicious tumor cells, stops the production of histamine, etc....
