Really? Always heard that they had pretty bad reliability (compared to Jap bikes) and as for value...I can buy two or three Yamahas for the price of one Harley  Ok, Harley's have resale value, but after you consider all the interest you pay on your $30k bike loan, it's probably a wash. Aftermarket...there's plenty for my bike and mine isn't even a popular model  Oh yeah, and I HATE chrome (another reason I'll probably never get a Harley). That might be a good comparison if the Porsche cost half of the price of the Caprice. I wonder how many people would buy the Caprice if it cost $100k?
In 1984 I paid about $10K for a new Harley, last time I checked the KBB was about $7K, not bad for a 22 year old bike. Show me anything close with a Jap bike. (they all went to the scrap pile 20 years ago) :lmao: :killingme

I don't like to say things like "never", but Bob, you'll never sell me on a BMW. No particular reason. Ignorance, perhaps. I just don't ever see me getting one.
I'm not TO into the looks of it, but the Adventure is one hell of a bike.. and it's definetely a bike for someone my size. I love my RS, and would probably love the ST, but just the ability to go anywhere is pretty cool.. Hop off on a goat trail.. or slab it for 1000 miles..

:yay: In case you didn't see it, I edited my previous post and added some info.

I agree with you that the BMW's are nice bikes. They've come out with some awesome designs recently, and I've been seeing more of them around that REALLY look awesome. I was talking to Pete about this last week though...I can appreciate the designs, functionality, reliability...all that comes with a BMW. I just can't make that jump to WANTING one. I don't know why.

 Thats a specially build model by the Custom Vehicle Operations department. Limited edition hand built bikes are an exception.
ALL Harleys are custom hand builds, there are no "production runs" of any model or color.

I'm still riding a 1989 Kawasaki Vulcan 750!!!

In fact took it on a 300+ mile cruise on saturday.

But I admit I only had to pay $2,800 for it 2 years ago.

I vote a brunch ride Sunday the 11th! Weather.com says 83 degrees, partly cloudy, 51% humidity.

I'll start a new thread.

Had 5k on it. Has 23k on it now.
I was going to guess 4 or 5K.. Figured a 25 year old Cow still on the road, a once a year rider, stored inside somewhere..

I bought my 2002 last year with about 11,000 on it, it now has 26,000

I'm guessing you're both talking about a Screamin' Eagle version with a big engine & custom performance goodies + a custom paint job. If you're into that and have the money. I'd rather have one of them than a Harley knock off with not a single Harley part on it.

You mean one of the 50 or so Harley knock offs the big 4 Jap makers are producing?

Yea, the Screamin' Eagle Ultra, SVO bike. Yle was talking aobut how Harley's cost $30K, I said they don't but APS pointed out the one bike specially built by Harley SVO that does. He was right I was wrong Harley's do actually cost $30K.

We toured the Harley in York PA a couple of years ago. Interesting to watch the assembly process as all the different frames, tank, fenders and accessories would arrive at different points on the assembly line to build the different bikes. No two alike in the line. They're ALL custom ordered, either by a dealer for his showroom or a final customer.
That has to be a programming nightmare  One notch off and you'd have a mess

You can make arrangements through a dealer and pick your bike up at the factory (ride it off the assembly line) I was going to do that with my first bike, but then found just the one I wanted at the dealer.

Don't think I'd want a 150 mile ride on the interstate with engine break in restrictions.

No, the stuff from Iron Horse, OCC etc. I don't think there's any Harley parts on them.

I was dealing with Annapolis Harley back then, they recomended I take delivery and trailer it down to them for dealer servicing before anything. Break-in restrictions on the new bike; Vary speeds during break-in(no interstate crusing at 70mph for hours on end), first 50 miles 3000rpm/70mph max, 50 miles-500, 3500rpm/80mph max. and the hardest for me, don't downshift while braking.

KBC FFR, they wanted $285  I found it for $176 with free shipping. Basically I wanted ot try one on before I paid that much. If they were reasonable I would have bought one. I tried the HJC and it was flimsey feeling and cheap.

Bought my KBC FFR at www.motoxoutlet.com for a pretty decent price. Haven't bought much from Atlantic Cycle, but what little I have purchased has been a bit pricey.
