What kind of dog is this? She was dumped!

The opinion of the gal at the clinic this morning was that she is a chocolate lab/pit mix (which was my initial guess I think). I can see why someone might think Dobie though. We asked if they would please try to estimate her age so we know more about her to be able to find her a home.

She is getting Rabies and Distemper vaccinations, comprehensive test for Lyme, heartworm, etc., spayed, and dewormed.

The hard part will be keeping her quiet for a few days/week while her stitches begin to heal. She is such a happy girl all the time.

Well ok then, lab it is! Best of luck placing her and keeping her quiet the next few days. :huggy:

I heard something yesterday about Labs being the number 1 favorite dog, so her being part Lab should help her get adopted.

I look at the dogs on Operation Paws for Homes facebook page almost daily - it seems that there are a huge number of lab/pit mix dogs. I'm willing to bet the pits were bred with labs to make them a more friendly breed (though labs come with their own challenges). It's either that, or OPH figures if they include lab in the mix, more people will consider adoption.

There's a reason you see a lot of Labs around the 9 month mark at rescues. They are too much of a challenge for a lot of people - though once they mature they are probably one of the best breeds around :)

Agreed! I rescued my lab when he was around 5 months old. The previous owner was going to take him to the pound because she couldn't handle the chewing stage and he had yet to be house trained. He was very stubborn. It was a bit frustrating at first but he's turned into one of the best dogs I've ever had, and I've had some good dogs, a doberman and a border collie. He's three-years old now and the only problem I have with him is that he will eat until he pukes if I don't monitor his food intake.

Add to the mix that some; not ALL; pit owners let their dogs run loose and don't get their dogs spayed/ neutered. In my business, I see more more unaltered pits than any other breed. We also sell Calvert Co tags and we need proof of rabies/ spay and neuter and the ONLY dogs that I have sold tags for that are not fixed are- you guessed it- pits. The last young lady that bought tags said "I just want to breed them a few times. They will make such cute puppies and I already know people that will want to buy them" :clueless:`

She is very attached to her humans. The foster wonders how she will be when she goes to her new home. I am sure she will attach herself to her new humans just fine because she likes everyone she meets. She was licking the foster's dog in the face (Newfie) so she is quite social with other dogs so far.

I wonder about why so many of the lab/pit mix myself. She has never shown any aggression at all. You can take her food and she won't react badly.

PS the vet said she was anywhere from 3-5 years old, and that she had been bred multiple times. Thank goodness this little girl will never bred again.

She was dumped into the road soon after they took her puppies off of her as she was still lactating when the foster took her in. The foster worried that puppies had been dumped elsewhere so they went looking for the pups but never found them.

Maybe she would be a good fit for us

Hello all,

My pup lost his playmate a few months back. We have been looking to find him a companion. We really love giant breeds but the adoption process states they need a fenced in yard. I would never leave our Dane outside unattended, he has a runner and loves it. She might be a good fit for our family of a male Dane and three cats.

Let me know the details and maybe this beautiful girl could be part of our family.

Thanks

Could be - you are welcome to bring your dog over to meet her <G>. I'll send you a PM.

Did you smack the #### out of her?

Thousands of dogs die each day in shelters, all because some backyard ####head breeder wants "cute" puppies, or to make a quick buck.

I am sure that there would be a lot of opposition, but I think TV ads showing what happens to the overpopulation of pets should be shown during prime time TV. It can't be any worse for us to watch pets being put down compared to the kind of daily violence they put on TV every day. I think each week the NEW faces that had to die should be shown.

I was told the vet said she had been heavily used for breeding in her short life. Vet also said her feet are splayed which comes from being caged a lot. She is very high energy and would enjoy a large fenced yard and/or someone to walk her every day.

Please help is find this lovable sweet dog a.home. whoever used her for breeding cared so little for her that they dumped her in the road and took off.

she finds another home or goes to the shelter

This sweet happy (now spayed) dog has to go from the foster's home since she has not yet been placed. The foster is unable to keep her any longer.

Attributes are that this dog likes to act like a guard dog and will let you know if she hears cars in the driveway, or other sounds that you may need to be notified of. Now I understand that most rescue's operate to NOT promote dogs as "guard" dogs, however, this is just apparently part of this dogs personality? So many who have seen her have commented on how great of a "guard" dog she is to alert to strangers.

As stated before she was used as a breeder, kept caged a lot as evidenced by her splayed feet (per the vet), and she has a LOT of energy. She eats as though she has been starved. She literally attacks the food and doesn't even chew it. Just swallows the food, yes even after the past 5 months with the foster getting regular meals. She is getting better about taking treats more gently. She wants to listen to sit/down/stay but sometimes she is so excited to see you she just wiggles.

This dog was used and abused by whoever was breeding her. The foster has done all they can to help her but can no longer keep her. They said if we can't find a placement for her they will take her to she shelter. I can't take her as I have no place to keep her. She does need a decent height fence as she can jump the 4' fence at the foster's home.

She is housebroken, has been crated with no problems, and she is really so friendly and starved for love. We would hate to see this dog end up at the shelter. We are hoping that someone here can take her in while we continue to look for a home for her. It would be such a waste to have this wonderful dog end up being put down at the shelter after so much time and effort has gone into helping her these past 5 months.

(I briefly skimmed the prev posts and didn't see anything.- might have missed it though)

The times she was allowed to run loose in the house, she sniffed the cats, but didn't seem interested in them (thankfully).

She does seem to like to mouth things like a young dog would do. She would probably need to have some durable toys handy to occupy her at times she is left idle.
