Late lunch, early dinner at Seabreeze. FAT hard crabs, cream of crab soup, corn fritters, Hushpuppies, and blackened catfish.

There were 4 of us! 😂 One of my oldest BFF's was visiting a sister in Alexandria, along with another sister from CA. That one had never picked crabs before. I taught her well. 😁

Cubed Angus steaks seared in a cast iron skillet with butter and onions, on a ciabatta roll with provolone.

Growing up we called them 'minute steaks'. No one down here seems to know that term.
In our house, Minute Steaks were thinly sliced eye of the round or similar cut, about 1/4" thick.
Cubed Steaks were Cubed Steaks.

I've got to convince the wife that she doesn't need to have crabs as soon as they're available. They cost way to much and they're light, get them at the end of the season when the price comes down and the crabs are fuller.

True statement. I was pleasantly surprised at the size/weight. And the price! Seabreeze usually runs about $75 a dozen (always a few extra thrown in) but they were $60 a dozen yesterday.

Have both. I used to get excited about early crabs, go get some, then not have any more until fall when they're worth eating.

I’m a northerner, I just can’t get that excited over a blue crab. Give me a king or snow crab any day.

I'm from the mid-west. If we went to a street corner, paid $100, and got a bushfull of crabs from the back of someone's van we definitely did NOT go home and call all our friends to come over, drink beer and eat them! No matter what color or size.

It's more a rite of summer. Like wearing shorts the second the weather breaks even though it's too soon and your legs are so white you could read by them. Plus picking crabs is more of a social activity than a meal. Like you said, king or snow crabs are more food with less work.
