I'll be gut honest. I am afraid of black men. Most of them anyway.

I was sitting in my car on Friday when a large black man reached in and grabbed me, from behind by the shoulder.

I almost died of a frigging heart attack right on the spot!

He took a cigarette and walked away but I really think he only did that because I was on the phone and that surprised him.

Does fear make me racist?

I don't think so. With all that we see on the news in this area combined with our own personal experiences, there are generally reasons to be a little cautious when you encounter blacks. Unless of course, it is a couple of 75 year old women. Then again, if they were white wearing a bunch of freaky tatoos and peircings or dressed like bad loser bikers, I think most of us would be a little more cautious. It's not always about race but it's a factor.

I have found out that if I am approaching a group of young black men, that you can reallly throw the off by talking to them, saying hello, asking them how they are, etc. Ask them for directions. Ask them where the best place to get some chichen is. From their prospective, they know that a lot of white people are afraid so if you actually talk to them, you will pick up on the look of surprise in their faces.

You may not want to try this on a street corner or at the mall in Waldorf but I've done it many times and it's fun to see what happens.

I had a visitor knock on my door at 2:30AM a few years ago and it freaked me out. They wanted to use the phone, I slammed the door and told them to go away but they hung around for awhile. I couldn't go to sleep for the next two nights after that. Can never be to careful these days!

I didn't know calling black people black was outdated. I refer to them as black. I have never referred to them as African-American for many reasons. Generally, it just doesn't make sense.

I must admit I am not a politically correct person and I am proud that I had the nads not to be.

People are people. To me no one is Asian American, European American, African American, Latino American...blah blah blah...we are all people. When we give blood, we give it to people...not to a certain type of people. We are all the same.
