Must Of had a little micro burst or something in our yard, the edge of our woods there are two or three trees that had their tops ripped off and thrown on the other side. Nothing damaged tho thank god.

Lots of damage further north. On the southbound side of 2/4 around Ponds Woods Rd there's a tree being held up off the road by the power lines. In Annapolis, the light at 2/214 is out and power is out all over the place.

Virtually nothing in Town Creek, other than my network being down until now. Just a couple of dead branches in the yard. I thought my gladiolus would be smashed, but they're fine.

Made a run to the grocery store, business as usual here. Sorry for all those out of power in the heat. :ohwell:

I am just flabbergasted. Had no idea any of this was going on. My lights apparently didn't even flicker because all my clocks were normal this morning.

I had lights flicker, that's about it. A lot of people just a few hundred yards away got slammed though. Weird.

I was supposed to be headed for a week at scout camp tomorrow morning, but the storm wiped out the camp. :ohwell:

The La Plata Campus only is closed today, June 30, due to electricity outage.

---

The Charles County Department of Public Works is asking citizens to make efforts to conserve water following last night's severe storms, which affected water operations at some of the county's water stations. Citizens are urged to refrain from washing cars, watering the lawn, and other non-essential water usage until further notice.

Some tips for water conservation include:

Refrain from watering lawns, shrubs, flowers.
Do not wash cars.
Do not top off swimming pools.
Use water only as necessary (i.e., take shorter showers and turn off faucets after washing hands).
Limit flushing toilets (do not flush after every use).
Postpone using washing machines and dishwashers.

Until repairs are complete, it is imperative that all businesses and residents restrict their water use. If citizens do not reduce their water use significantly, it may be necessary to declare a water emergency and impose mandatory water restrictions.

For additional information, contact the Dept. of Public Works at 301-609-7400.

Lost power here in Hughesville last night at about midnight, fired up the generator and tried to sleep through the night, it was terrible !!!! Power restored about an hour and a half now. I'm told today and tomorrow that storms are also possible again? Anyone know???

I was in SE Ohio last evening...

having dinner ...little country diner.
next thing---shingles are scooting through the parking lot, dust is whipping our cars, sign is swaying and power flickers on & off for 2 min....then dead.
Paid in cash,...and started driving EAST-directly behind the front-Horizontal Lightening, trees blocking two lane HWYS...no power anywhere.

Drove 90 min to get to my darkened hotel...no generator, no traffic lights-but they had the key waiting for me & there was plenty of water pressure. So read by flashlight til I slept.
Woke up: still no power. Manager said it might be out for 2-5 days. Drove East through WV looking at my gas gage: plenty of stations had NO back-up and there were people simply pulled over on the side of the road unsure of what to do---dozens of mile with not a drop of gas available.
Found a line at a station west of Morgantown,...waited & filled up: that got me home.

Some of the worst tree damage was in Monty county--limbs still on the 270!
Down here in Calvert: things look roasted but very little wind damage.

Now, we watch the west again as storms are into Fred-burg right now. (Just popcorn cells...no major front attached to it.

Learn something every day. I thought it was just a storm.

Yep, I learned something new today too.:nerd:

A derecho is a widespread and straight-lined windstorm that often has a band of rapidly moving thunderstorms associated with it. These conditions are ripe for generating multiple tornadoes that can cause severe damage. "Some derechos can down homes ... Some derechos can roll over mobile homes ... Many derechos take roofs and take fences down. So they can be just as destructive as tornadoes."
The term derecho was coined by Gustavus Hinrichs, a physics professor. It's a Spanish word that means direct or straight ahead, while tornado is thought to be from the Spanish word tornar, which means to turn.

Meteorologists usually issue a severe thunderstorm watch when they see an approaching derecho.
