Great. I just ordered a new PC with 8. And no touchscreen, because in my OCD world, I can't bear to fingerprints on the monitor. I guess I'll be coming here with a ton of questions.

Upgrade to 8.1 as soon as you get the pc up and running..you'll get a pop-up within hours of turning it on for the first time..it's painless

You'll needa Windows 7 installation disc. You can buy it, of course, but with downgrade rights you just need an Windows 7 DVD or USB stick and your Windows 8 Pro activation key. If you're moving from Windows 8 Pro to Windows 7 Professional you won't need a new license key, but you will have to call Microsoft to obtain a single-use activation code after Windows 7 is installed - attempting to activate Windows 7 online will bring up a local Activation Support phone number.

You also need to make sure you have all the important drivers. In Windows 8 open the Device Manager (hit Windows and X, then choose Device Manager). Now expand each device until there's a list of all the components, then write them down or take screenshots. You need the manufacturer and model numbers for everything, but the three most critical components are display adaptor, network adaptor and pointing device (if you use anything other than an ordinary mouse).

That's not nice to say at all. I really thought you'd be interested in adopting one or two :frown:

No. So stop asking.

For all the time you are wasting trying to downgrade, you could have learned 8 already. It really is not that complicated. Focus!

My laptopr has stopped asking me if I wanted to upgrade to 8.1. Now I want it to but it doesnt prompt me anymore. :frown: I've turned it off and on, etc.. and no prompts anymore. How do I make it have a pop up screen to make it ask me again? I changed my mind.

Go to the store tile. It should be in there.

I finally broke the box open and unpacked the new computer. I've had a couple of hours of hate now.

I know the kind of guy who thought this POS up. He's the guy who has 300 icons on his desktop and uses 3. He saves every frickin email he's ever received, even when the information in them is perishable and invalid 24 hours later. He's the guy who has one of those watches with two time zones, but never goes anywhere further than the book store. He's the guy I want to throw stuff at, but instead I smile and ignore him when he goes off on one of his tangents about who would win in jello wrestling contest at zero gravity - superman or batman. He's a right handed person who thinks with the right side of his brain and he's always telling you how to could do something easier, but when you try it his way, it takes longer and requires 4 more steps. But it's easier, amirite?

Can you tell I'm not.having.fun.yet?

I went to Staples the other day to buy a data cable so I could try to pull my files from my old PC to another one (couldn't login to my admin profile) so Will says if the problm is what he thinks it is, bring it in and for $69 he'll fix it. If he can't fix it he can copy the files for me for $69. Okay I understand they need to make money, but I am scraping to feed and provide litter and meds for 12 kitties that are waiting to be adopted so I don't have $69 to pay. Now what could he possibly know that none of us thought of already to try?

The data cable was $40 so I left without it. I hate to do it but I am going to have to take my PC to work to ask one of the techie people there to help me. Waaaa. In the meantime I am trying to figure out Win 8.1 .... :frown:
