21-month-old girl killed by dogs

Set aside the dog breed, EMS said when they got there, the child was already cold. There were other people there beside the grandmother and no one heard this? How long was it going on before anyone noticed? It took a sleeping grandmother just waking up to notice something was going on.

“When we got here and spoke to EMS, they told us that when they got here, she was already cold. There was nothing they could do,” Beatty said Wednesday.

The attack was discovered when Laminack’s grandmother woke up, looked out a back window and saw the dogs with the girl. The grandmother and others rushed outside to pull the dogs off the child, however their actions were too late to save her Beatty said.

And another...

New details out on toddler killed by dogs in Ellabell - WAFB 9 News Baton Rouge, Louisiana News, Weather, Sports

Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith said at a news conference that Monica had crawled through the doggie door, which wasn't unusual because she had done it before, before the dogs attacked. Her 12-year-old brother was supposed to be watching the girl as the grandmother was sleeping upstairs. Five people were in the house at the time.

If you piece all of these together you may have the complete story.

That's just another article stating they were pits....

Based on the fact that media tends to be wrong on this, I'm just wondering.

Still a very sad situation with more than one factor leading to this.

I'm confused. Are you saying you don't think the dogs were pits?

Interesting...

Smith said four generations of the family live at the home. The family has nine dogs - a beagle, an Irish setter and seven pit bulls or pit bull-mixed dogs.

The family said there had never been an issue with the dogs before and that they never felt the child was in danger with them. The family did say at least one of the dogs killed a cat one time.

And it wasn't a strange person in their yard, either, because they certainly were familiar with the little girl.

So...good question. What could have triggered the first dog, who led the other dogs, to attack her? ICIT? Any ideas?

I dont have any kids... but i will use what happened at my place and what i saw...

so my one male was having a good time playing with his toy.... i was kicking it for him and the Hound walked by him and the playing dog bumped into him.

his whole body language changed and I saw it.... and expressed my concern by telling him to GO!..... the playing dog not phased by the moment continued to play and make barking/growling sounds at the toy and the Hound was still disturbed about the moment and took it personal ...
as he came back toward the playing dog ... I was already heading that way (less than a few feet away as i was playing with the toy also)... and he lashed out... and all HELL broke loose..

it was an alpha issue but as this started and i was trying to get them apart the alpha female tried to join in... till i yelled at her and she went and joined the other bitches hiding in the corner...

......................................................................

so its hard to say what could have set one dog off....

could have been the kid running and playing with one dog (maybe not the alpha dog... and the alpha feeling the dog was out of line)

they could have taken the kid running around as prey....

if the kid was running around and fell on a dog....

its so hard to say.... but the main point is NO CHILD SHOULD EVER BE LEFT ALONE WITH A DOG.. OR SEVERAL DOGS.... I dont care what effing breed it is!!!!

but all it takes is one dog to start something in the pack (intentional or not) and then the other will jump in.

I assume you have more information other than an article stating they were "pit bulls"?

I was waitin on ya. :buddies: Of course they weren't pits. They were Yorkies man! :killingme
Actually not funny. A poor little baby girl is dead and you come in on the defense. Will you ever see the light??

I'm confused. Are you saying you don't think the dogs were pits?
Of course he is. Chris will defend the indefensible pits to the end. If nothing else, he's consistent.

So it's the child's fault? Got it.

:bs: I've seen dogs fight around a group of other dogs and the others did not jump in.

Any other pit defenders wanna jump in and justify the death of this child??? I'm waiting. :coffee:

:smack:... never said it was the kids fault.... but do you think a kid knows what not to do?? a kid will be a kid.... it will run... it will make squealing noises.....

and for someone that doesnt own a dog... i suggest you go and spend time at a dog park... and learn dog behavior..

there are some dogs that are very alpha.... some that are submissive.... some that have no care in the world... some that have lots of prey drive (anything that moves fast and make noise)

I dont care what breed it is.... (as i will never own a pit... have no desire to ever own one.... and i have made that clear many times)

I have trained many breeds of dogs for many years and I think i have a better understanding of dog behavior in general than you ... sorry

and please feel free to come see how a pack sticks together and you may learn something...

I do not ####ing care if the child was attacked and killed by one single poodle, she should have been supervised. After all, there are 4 generations of people that live there. Perhaps all of the adults should not have been asleep at 6####ingPM while an infant (not toddler) was running around!
