I heard from a relative of mine who went to catholic school that they'd put your hands underneath the window sill in the winter and let 'er rip on your knuckles as one form of punishment. Sounds like that might've kept this brat from hitting anyone for awhile. :really:
:yay: :high5:

She sure sat her ass down when she saw the cops, that tells me she is cognizant of "consequence". she knew there were consequences from the police, but not from the teachers or her mother. Toothless discipline and a prime example of people screwing up a system that works. Like most above the age of 35 I have felt the cold sting of a board weilded by a teacher. It is a great deterent that has been taken away because of the "Kumbaya singing Love and Logic" crowd. I have a feeling that she should get used to handcuffs because there will be alot of that in her future.

How would you have handled it?
I'd have to see how it started. Distraction always worked when the kids were little - they have the attention span of gnats so it wasn't hard to say, "Hey! Come over here and look at this!" when trouble started brewing. An ounce of prevention...

But it's easy for me to sit on here and be all pious and such because I was the authority figure with my kids and could manage them. Even Larry's two, who I got when they were 5 and 7 - it wasn't difficult to establish the authority because they were mine. And the 7 year old's (now 15) childhood fits are legend in the Gude family.

I just think it's sad to let the cops be the boogeyman of your own child. Your kid is supposed to fear you and your disapproval more than anything in the world.

Jersey attitude.
IMHO, this has nothing to do with the schools, this poor child has learned by example from her mother, who most likely does as she pleases, and does not take responsibility. Child does same, and is allowed to get away with it because it gets harder and harder for mother to discipline. Then it is left to the teachers, who cannot provide the form of punishment this kind of child needs. SO the child gets away with murder, but you saw how she acted when the real authority showed up - the cops were an unknown, and a follow thru on a threat made earlier. ANd she was terrified. The teachers she had in thepalm of her hand because she has the system all figured out at the school.

To echo Vrai, I want to hug this child, because she is yet innocent, for all her cunningness. It is never the child's fault when they are yet this young. SOmething born innocent and pure does not get this effed up by 5 all on its own.

I went through the same thing with my son when he was in Kindergarten. He threw a tantrum in the class and the vice principal came and took him to her office. Then they called me, took me 10 minutes to get to the school and when I got there they were frantic. Turns out they left him in the office by himself and he locked the door and began destroying the VP's stuff. The janitor finally got there with the extra key and when the door was opened I was shocked. He had thrown all of her stuff off her desk, ripped her papers off the wall, and flipped a table that was in the office. He got a good arse smacking and was told that he would clean it all up BEFORE he walked out of the school. Took 3 hours but he did it! I gave the VP $50 to replace knick knacks that were broken and then they wanted to suspend him. Kids aren't dumb...the whole reason they get in trouble is because they KNOW they are gonna be allowed to stay home. I ended up going to school with him for 4 days and sitting in the classroom to make sure he didn't do anything like that again. He was fine the rest of the year and was also made to apologize to his class and everyone in the office. After watching that video, the mother should be embarrased. How can you NOT go to get your child when you know what is going on? What if the kid was hurt or something! I am surprised Child Protection is not investigating the household...if she acts like that in public what does she do at home?!?! HIDE THE KNIVES!!!! Good ole fashion arse whippin' would suffice! :whip:

Stop the behavior first then coodle. I agree this kid didn't get this way on her own but the sad fact is what's done is done and needs to be undone. You stop the behavior first and foremost then you hug them.

When Noah gets out of hand to the point where I have to raise my voice or smack his butt, he KNOWS what he's done. He gets a couple warnings then it's show time. Afterwards we talk about it. He's 3 and has never been not able to tell me why he got in trouble. Never. Then we hug.

I don't think that child would let you hug her. It looks like she hasn't had many of those.
That teacher has alot more patience than me...

See, you all have a much higher regard and opinion of 5 year old children than I do. Innocent my butt. I've seen children from the best of families (except my very own of course   ) lose their ever lovin minds. The fault lies in the parent, the child, and the school system. Kids need to be trained properly, it just doesn't happen. Kids are not born "innocent" they are BORN holy terrors, and the proof is right there when you see a kid who doesn't have a responsible adult around to train them to be a functional human being.

That kid doesn't need a hug, she needs a foot up her rear end.

Be sure to put this in you living will along with the "no tubes (natural or otherwise) in any of my orifices if I'm unconcious" clause.
